Aaron Rodgers has long been critical of renowned American scientist Anthony Fauci. The New York Jets quarterback has often been accused of not staying in his line and commenting on matters that are better left to the experts — such as the effectiveness of vaccines, what “really happened” during the terror attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, or whether the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting of 2012 was an “inside job.”

But newly-uncovered footage shows that Rodgers also believes in another insidious conspiracy theory with zero basis in reality, and he has used it as another excuse to pillory Fauci in a public forum while many in the American public are moving on.

Rodgers claims HIV is a government invention

During an appearance on the “Look Into It” podcast, Rodgers discussed the HIV/AIDS epidemic of the 1980s — and suggested that Fauci, as well as the United States government, was somehow involved in transmitting it to the public.

“The gameplan was made in the ’80’s,” Rodgers said via Zoom. “Create a pandemic, with a virus that’s going wild. Fauci was given over $350 million to research this, to come up with drugs, new or repurposed to handle the AIDS pandemic. And all they came up with was AZT (azidothymidine).”

At least 700,000 Americans have died due to complications stemming from HIV infection since the first cases were reported in 1981. As he did during the worst days of the COVID-19 pandemic, Fauci took heavy blame for government inaction, as many Americans were frustrated at Congress‘ slow response to the escalating illness. AZT, the first drug patented to treat HIV, has been credited with saving millions of lives — and it was part of the Fauci-led response to the crisis.

Rodgers spread other falsehoods about Fauci during his podcast appearance, including the conspiracy that the 83-year-old has a “stake” in both the Moderna vaccine and the medication Remdesivir, both used to prevent or treat COVID. It is no coincidence, then, that Rodgers was considered a strong contender to be Robert F. Kennedy Jr.‘s presidential running mate — the third-party candidate shares similar skeptical views about vaccinations.
