Crystal Palace have shown an interest in Southampton‘s Alex McCarthy and Leicester City‘s Daniel Iversen as they look to bolster their goalkeeping options.

Roy Hodgson is aiming to replace Vicente Guaita who has refused to play for them.

Hodgson said: ‘Guaita is disenchanted with the club. So he has made it clear that he would like to move on and he’s refusing to play. It’s up to the club to decide, not him.’

The Spanish ‘keeper only played one of Palace’s final 12 Premier League games last season as an injury coincided with Sam Johnstone taking his place as first-choice between the sticks.

Guaita signed on a free transfer in the summer of 2018 and established himself as a fans’ favourite at Selhurst Park, winning the Supporters’ Player of the Year in 2021.

Daniel Iversen is also an option for Crystal Palace after he was left out of Leicester City’s squad for their opening Championship fixture against Coventry City

Previously a fan favourite at Palace, Vicente Guaita is looking to return to Spain after falling down the pecking order under Roy Hodgson

However, with his place in Hodgson’s team no longer guaranteed, the 36-year-old has been linked with a return to former club Getafe in LaLiga.

McCarthy and Iversen are seen as attainable replacements to act as back-up for Johnstone after neither featured for their respective Championship clubs on the opening weekend of the season.

Palace begin their Premier League campaign with a trip to Bramall Lane to take on newly-promoted Sheffield United on Saturday, August 12.
