David Benavidez reached out to Turki Alalshikh, an Arab sheikh, via his social media channels, urging him to step in and facilitate the realization of a showdown between himself and Saul “Canelo” Alvarez.

The Mexican boxer, known as the “Mexican Monster,” envisioned the potential of the bout and extended the offer to the president of the General Entertainment Authority of Saudi Arabia.

What did Benavidez say?

Addressing Turki Alalshikh directly, Benavidez expressed his ambition to bring the most significant and thrilling match to Saudi Arabia.

He emphasized the historical magnitude of the prospective Mexican versus Mexican-American clash and advocated for Saudi Arabia as the ideal venue for global exposure. Benavidez underscored the fight’s significance, framing it as a contest for honor and renown rather than mere financial gain.

“I fight for greatness, not for money,” he stated.

Recent developments have stirred controversy, with reports surfacing that Alvarez requested a purse ranging from 150 to 200 million dollars, a figure deemed excessive by many.

Despite this, Alvarez pledged to donate his earnings from the fight in the event of a loss, and a substantial portion of the winnings in case of victory would be allocated to combat child hunger worldwide.

This commitment underscores Alvarez’s prioritization of sporting achievement over financial gain.
