Carter Nicholas Oosterhouse is an American TV personality and former model. Oosterhouse first got national attention as a carpenter on the TLC show Trading Spaces. He has since hosted other home improvement and how-to shows. In 2008, he was the host of three HGTV shows: Carter Can, Red Hot, and Green. Oosterhouse was also the host of the HGTV show Million Dollar Rooms, which showed off the most expensive parts of elaborately made homes.
In 2015, Oosterhouse started hosting The Great Christmas Light Fight, an ABC reality show with Taniya Nayak. He came back for the holidays every year from 2016 to 2022. People magazine’s “Sexiest Man Alive” issue named Oosterhouse one of the “Sexiest Men on TV.” TV Guide Channel, Inside TV, and CosmoGirl all also said that he was one of the sexiest men on TV.

In 2011, the former host of “Carter Can” got married to actress Amy Smart at their home in Traverse City, Michigan. Smart is known for her roles in “Just Friends,” “Shameless,” and “Stargirl.”
They met when they both took care of a school garden. The actress didn’t know at the time that her future husband was a well-known HGTV host, but they soon became close because they both cared about helping the environment.
When Carter and Amy first met, they were both in relationships with other people. Once they were both single again, they got back in touch, and in 2010, they started dating.
About a year later, they got married, and their wedding was held in a way that was good for the environment. Soon after their wedding, the couple told People that “for 220 people,” their big day only made one bag of trash.

Smart’s daughter Flora was born on December 26, 2016, through the help of a surrogate. She told the public about this in 2017, writing, “After years of fertility struggles, I give thanks today to our kind, loving surrogate for carrying her.” Both of Flora’s parents post pictures of her often on their Instagram accounts.
The family spends some time in Los Angeles and some time in Traverse City (where they own a 100-year-old property). Amy, Carter, and Todd Oosterhouse, who is Carter’s brother, also own the Bonobo Winery in Michigan City.
