A custodian for class A drugs who kept a shotgun in her dad’s garage has narrowly avoided prison.

Sarah Fargie, 35, was found to be in possession of nearly £700 worth of cocaine, Leeds Crown Court heard on Friday. Prosecutor Ashleigh Metcalfe said police searched her home during their investigation into a shooting in Cleckheaton.

It was there the drugs were found on March 1 last year.

Ms Metcalfe said: “They found several items: Bank notes, a small bag of white power in a jacket pocket, more bags of white powder under a bed, more in the front bedroom, more cash there also.”

The court heard £690 worth of cocaine was discovered, and Fargie was said to be the “custodian” of £370 worth.

Ms Metcalfe said: “She was arrested and interviewed. She said the cocaine was for her personal use and she got a little bit and put it in a bag to monitor how much she used. She said the cash was from breeding dogs.”

Fargie, of Foldings Road, Scholes in Cleckheaton, pleaded guilty on the day of trial to possession with intent to supply class A drugs on the basis that she was a custodian of the drugs. She was found guilty at trial of possession of a shotgun without a certificate following the discovery of a gun at a garage that belonged to her father in December 2022.

Ms Metcalfe said: “At the time she and Mr [Christopher] Stewart were in a relationship with one another. Three was an incident where a firearm was discharged and a search warrant was carried out at Turnsteads Drive in Cleckheaton at a garage that belonged to her father. A shotgun was found. That had been stolen in December 2021 from a residential farm in Hoole.

“It wasn’t the one that was discharged. The day of the police search, Christopher Stewart, who was at HMP Leeds, made a phone call to her. It was recorded and he was clearly worried about what the police would find at the garage. She told him she had a call from police and a warrant was to be executed ‘Where you parked your Subaru’ and he said, ‘Where you put the thing?’

“He said, ‘I’m f***** then’ and another man came on the call and said, ‘It’s not in your name it can’t be linked to you.””
