‘The manager said once we score once we’ll score three!’ – Brenna Johnson

Spurs produced a stunning comeback to go from one-goal down to suddenly leading in the space of just 11 minutes and it seems Ange Postecoglou used his mystic powers during his half time teamtalk.

Brennan Johnson scored Tottenham’s second goal of the game and admitted post-match that Postecoglou had told them the goals would come once one went in.

Speaking to TNT Sport, Johnson said: ‘It was a weird game. We expected what was going to come in terms of a tough game and we fell for it, we got riled up we had to take a deep breath and play our football.

‘It was one of those games, the manager said once we score one we’ll score two and then three. We had to keep the momentum going after scoring. I knew I had to be there because that’s what the manager demands of our wingers.

‘They were a hard working team, they’re always in games even if they concede three, they made it hard for us. It’s just about performance, we weren’t good enough in the cup and we had to step it up.’

‘We are going in the right direction’ – Kevin de Bruyne

The City captain made his first Premier League start since the opening game of the season tonight and was influential in carving Burnley’s defence open, most notably for Julian Alvarez’s second goal of the game.

His return coincides with Erling Haaland also returning from injury and City are now nearly at full strength as we continue to race through the season.

Speaking to TNT Sports, De Bruyne said: ‘Last time I played from start was about Burnley six months ago. Feeling good and progressing last couple games and going in the right direction.

‘I think it’s more of a feeling if we lose a game we are getting too far behind. If you lose today Liverpool would win and are far away. We keep plugging away to win and hopefully we come back closer and we can fight till the end,’ he added.

FULL TIME: Tottenham 3-2 Brentford

The five-goal thriller in London is over as Spurs hold on despite a late Ivan Toney goal that threatened spoils would be shared.

Brentford were leading at half time, 11 minutes after play resumed they were 3-1 down as Spurs completely changed the game on its head.

Bees supporters can’t believe it, Tottenham fans can’t either but for very different reasons. Ange POstecoglou is delighted.

FULL TIME: Man City 3-1 Burnley

It’s all over at the Etihad as City claim three points that sees them leapfrog Arsenal into second-place in the Premier League standings.

It was dominant from start to finish from Pep Guardiola’s side as they flexed their muscles to send a warning to the rest of the English top-flight.

Erling Haaland’s return from injury was a huge bonus for the hosts as he came off the bench late on but wasn’t able to add another City goal.

21:22, 93

GOAL: Man City 3-1 Burnley – Ameen Al-Dakhil

Burnley grab a consolation but it will only be that. Fofana does really well to make space for a ball along the floor of the box that hits Al-Dakhil and drips over the line.

21:20, 90

Man City 3-0 Burnley

We will have five minutes of additional time in Manchester. Will Haaland get the goal he desperately craves?

21:16, 88

Man City 3-0 Burnley

Manchester City make two further changes as Rodri and Alvarez make way. On comes Kovacic and Gomes.

21:12, 82

Man City 3-0 Burnley

Haaland presses down on goal but is well matched by Ekdal. He cuts inside to make space for the shot but completely miskicks and ends up swiping the air.

The Norwegian sees the funny side as he gives a wry smile. City still in total control.

21:06, 77

Man City 3-0 Burnley

Yellow card: Roberts, Ederson

Tempers flare as Rico Lewis and Roberts are involved in a pushing contest. Roberts shoved Stones to spark a conflict in the box and then laughed as he tried to do the same to Lewis.

Ederson isn’t having it as he shoulder barges the Burnley player and yellow cards are shown to both.

Jack Grealish replaces Phil Foden shortly after.

21:00, 71

Man City 3-0 Burnley

The cheer around the Etihad lets you know exactly who is coming on as Erling Haaland strips off his training gear and steps back onto the pitch having missed 10 games in all competitions with a foot injury.

He replaces De Bruyne who lasted 70 minutes on his first Premier League start since returning from injury. City are flexing their muscles now.

20:59, 69

Man City 3-0 Burnley

Burnley find space in City’s box with a neat one-touch passing move, but somebody has to try and take a shot on at some stage surely!

They don’t and the eventual tip-tap football falls to the wayside as City turnover possession.

20:55, 66

Man City 3-0 Burnley

Burnley’s subs have made little impact on the match and there is an acceptance from the visitors to let City have the ball knowing that if they go chasing they will be carved open again.

20:51, 59

GOAL: Tottenham 3-1 Brentford – Richarlison

It’s a third goal of the half for Spurs as they cement their grasp on the match with Richarlison scoring a well-taken goal against the run of play. What on earth has happened to Brentford after half time? Thomas Frank is fuming.

Man City 3-0 Burnley

Burnley go to their bench to freshen things up as Vincent Kompany makes three changes with Chelsea loanee David Fofana making his Burnley debut.

Off – Amdouni, Foster, Gudmundsson

On – Ramsey, Fofana, Roberts

20:46, 57

Man City 3-0 Burnley

Cheers roar around the Etihad as Erling Haaland is told to go and warm-up.

He greets the crowd who are loving seeing their side dominate and you fear there are goals for Haaland to grab here when he comes on.

20:44, 49

GOAL: Tottenham 2-1 Brentford

It’s two goals in one minute for Spurs as Destiny Udogie pulls the hosts level before Brennan Johnson gives them the lead. Just like that Spurs are ahead as Brentford capitulate.

20:41, 53

Man City 3-0 Burnley

It’s a golden chance for Burnley that Amdouni wastes. He broke City’s offside trap and had to square it for Odobert who would have had a tap-in. The Burnley striker chose to shoot and misses the target.

20:40, 51

Man City 3-0 Burnley

Doku wriggles out of a few challenges inside City’s half before bursting over the halfway line. He does excellently to find De Bruyne as Burnley’s defence backtracks. This could turn into a real thrashing!

20:35, 46

GOAL: Man City 3-0 Burnley – Rodri

It is on the cards as Rodri whips in a curled effort to secure his sixth goal of the season and virtually wrap up three points for the hosts.

Foden did really well to hold up play on the right-wing before picking out his team-mate. Burnley come undone again.

Man City 2-0 Burnley

Back underway at the Etihad as City come forward from the start and a goal could be on the cards.

HALF TIME: Tottenham 0-1 Brentford

Neal Maupay’s goal is the difference at the break as Tottenham trail by a single goal.

Ivan Toney’s return has inspired Brentford and a win against Spurs tonight would go some way to quelling any fears that they were being dragged into the relegation dogfight.

HALF TIME: Man City 2-0 Burnley

It was a bright start that quickly faded away for Burnley as birthday boy Julian Alvarez chipped in with two brilliant goals.

The Argentine was deadly with his header to open the scoring before latching onto a throughball from a free-kick for his second goal.

Burnley have had a couple of half chances but City are on top and it would be a huge shock to see the visitors get anything out of this match now.

Man City 2-0 Burnley

Foster has Burnley’s best effort as he uses two City players to try and disguise his shot after cutting in from the left. The Clarets striker can’t get enough bend on his effort and it rolls behind for a goal kick.

20:09, 38

Man City 2-0 Burnley

Vitinho is really struggling up against the pace and trickery of Doku who wins a foul on the edge of the box. The Burnley defender escapes a booking as City send a cross into the box that is punched clear.

20:06, 35

Man City 2-0 Burnley

It’s simple but beautiful football from City as they play three passes around the edge of the box, slowly pulling Burnley’s defence out of shape. The final ball isn’t great but you sense a third goal isn’t far away.

Ederson flies off his line to grab a cross destined for Amdouni out of the air. The Brazilian goalkeeper rubs his shoulder gingerly as he gets to his feet but is ok.

19:59, 28

Man City 2-0 Burnley

Gvardiol ends some patient build-up play with a ball along the floor into the box for Foden to chase. He gets a touch but is forced back, City are in total control.

19:57, 27

Man City 2-0 Burnley

Lyle Foster has a sniff at latching onto a ball over the top but across comes Gvardiol with a crunching no-nonsense tackle that sends the ball behind for a corner. Berge has a chance from the set-piece but misses his kick.

19:56, 25

Man City 2-0 Burnley

The visitors started brightly but they have been severely punished for two lapses in concentration.

Their lack of organisation for City’s second goal can’t be excused, Burnley are the makers of their own downfall so far tonight. This is the situation they would have been dreading.

19:52, 22

GOAL: Man City 2-0 Burnley – Julian Alvarez

It’s his second goal of the match but full credit has to go to De Bruyne as he produces a beautifully weighted pass from a set-piece to play Alvarez into acres of space in the box.

Burnley’s defence was sleeping, City’s attack wasn’t and just like that it’s 2-0!

19:49, 16

GOAL: Tottenham 0-1 Brentford – Neal Maupay

When one goes in they all go in and that’s what is happening tonight as Neal Maupay gives Brentford the lead against Tottenham.

Ange Postecoglou was defiant in his pre-match press conference that they were still in the title race, a defeat tonight might dim any remaining hope.

19:47, 16

GOAL: Man City 1-0 Burnley – Julian Alvarez

It’s beautful football as Nunes gets the ball back from Phil Foden and is down near the byline before looking up and chipping a ball back across goal. It’s poor defending as Alvarez is given plenty of space to nod his header past Trafford.

Six goals in his last seven games for the Argentine.

Man City 0-0 Burnley

Brownhill plays a reverse pass into the forward line for Amdouni to chase. He does so willingly and wins a corner but City clear and will come again.

19:43, 13

Man City 0-0 Burnley

City increase the pace as Rodri runs from deep and finds Doku on space on the wing. His feet are quick but good man-to-man defending forces him back. City are knocking at the door.

Man City 0-0 Burnley

Burnley try to mount an attack down the right as Berge presses well to win possesion back high up the pitch. Unfortunately he gives away a free kick in doing so.

Man City 0-0 Burnley

City continue to exert control and Burnley are clearing long as quickly as possible at every occasion. A free kick gives De Bruyne a chance at goal but Brownhill deflects the effort behind for a corner that comes to nothing.

Man City 0-0 Burnley

City dominate the first few passages as expected and a switch of play sees De Bruyne put a cross up to the back-post that Trafford spills before regathering.

KICK OFF: Tottenham 0-0 Brentford

We’re underway in London as well with Spurs hosting Brentford. We will bring you key updates from the Tottenham stadium.

KICK OFF: Man City 0-0 Burnley

We are underway at the Etihad as City seek a valuable victory in their race for the Premier League title.

Here come the teams..

The Etihad is putting on an impressive light display ahead of kick off and we are just moments away from kick off as City host Burnley in this midweek Premier League fixture.

We will be keeping you updated with the big moments from Spurs v Brentford as well.

Haaland is beaming as he warms up

The City star hasn’t been in a matchday squad since the start of December and you can see how much it means to him to be back out on the pitch.

The 23-year-old was getting bored during his rehab from injury and it’s great to see him smiling during the warm-ups at the Etihad – perhaps not so great if you’re and Arsenal or Liverpool fan though.

Burnley are desperate to taste victory

It’s not been the season many of us expected for last season’s Championship victors and bar and unfortunately for their supporters, relegation is the current favoured prediction.

Burnley have 12 points from 21 matches and have won just three games in the league this season. Currently they are seven-points from safety after Luton climbed out the drop zone last night.

The Clarets have NEVER won at the Etihad, what a time it would be for them to do so tonight!

What happened last time in this fixture?

You have to go all the way back to the opening game of the season for a repeat of tonight’s fixture when the reigning Premier League champions travelled to Turf Moor to get the new campaign underway.

City eased to victory that night with a 3-0 victory courtesy of two goals from Erling Haaland and a solo strike from Rodri.

That night also saw Kevin de Bruyne pick up an injury that would keep him sidelined until January. It would be a disaster for Pep Guardiola if the Belgian was to get injured again.

City’s birthday boy hoping to make an impact

Three points and a goal to boot would be the perfect birthday present for City striker Julian Alvarez tonight as he celebrates turning 24 tonight.

Ironically tonight is also likely to bring an end to his run of starts in the Premier League now Haaland is back fit so it’s probably a bittersweet moment for the Argentinian.

Haaland is in the house

The Norwegian superstar is in the building and will be taking to the pitch shortly for the pre-match warm-ups at the Etihad.

Just look how happy Haaland is to be back!

Erling Haaland returns for City

The Norwegian has missed FIVE Premier League fixtures with a recent stress injury but is back in the team tonight and expected to make an appearance from the bench.

He was the club’s top scorer last season on their way to winning the Treble and has been a huge miss over the festive period as City dropped points in the title race.

A goal-hungry Haaland against a Burnley side he has scored five times against in two appearances isn’t good news for Clarets supporters.

BRENTFORD TEAM NEWS

Ivan Toney has been linked with a move to Arsenal during the transfer window, tonight he can do the Gunners a huge favour in the Premier League title race by scoring against Spurs.

The Bees have strengthened with Sergio Reguilon but he won’t feature tonight due to Spurs being the Spaniard’s parent club.

TOTTENHAM TEAM NEWS

It’s probably the strongest Tottenham line-up possible with the exception of Son who is still away at the Asia Cup with South Korea.

James Maddison will provide the creativity in behind a front three of Dejan Kulusevski, Richarlison and Timo Werner who continues his starting role in the team since joining earlier this month.

BURNLEY TEAM NEWS

Here’s how Burnley shape up for tonight’s game against the reigining Premier League champions.

Clarets boss Vincent Kompany makes just one change from his side that drew against Luton last time out as Josh Cullen drops to the bench.

MANCHESTER CITY TEAM NEWS

Kevin de Bruyne starts for Man City, while Julian Alvarez leads the line and Erling Haaland returns to the bench following injury.

Updates from Tottenham v Brentford

Along with key coverage updates of Man City’s clash against Brentford, we will also be keeping you in the know with any big moments from the capital as Spurs and Brentford meet in an entertaining Premier League tie.

Team news from both matches will be with you shortly.

City seeking to close the gap

Victory tonight would be huge for City and move them to within two-points of Premier League leaders Liverpool.

An unimaginable defeat against a Burnley side second-bottom of the division would be disaster and keep them behind both Liverpool and Arsenal.

Pep Guardiola’s side usually come into their own during the second half of the season and it would be no surprise to see a big scoreline at the Etihad tonight.
