The Saints fought back and kept the margin at 19 points going into the main break.

But they need a solution for the Giants stars who repeatedly find ways to make an impact on the match.

Owens overkicked with his pass to a teammate across the defensive goals and the ball fell straight to Giants forward Jesse Hogan who booted his first goal of the day.

But moments later, Owens won the ball deep in his club’s forward line and he ran into an open goal.

Giants football general manager Jason McCartney says Sam Taylor has been taken to Canberra Hospital for assessment.

“He’s gone to Canberra Hospital for further treatment but he was conscious and speaking as he got into the ambulance,” McCartney told Fox Footy.

“He will get the best care there. It didn’t look great but he is a courageous kid and he is in the best hands now so he will be fine.”

The Giants have the lead but faced a much stiffer response from the Saints in the last part of that first quarter.

Still the Giants hold the lead and have been the better side, the Saints will rue some missed chances as the margin could have been much closer.

The loss of Sam Taylor to concussion will have a big impact on the Giants at the defensive end for the rest of this match.

Plenty of AFL experts list Tom Green as the certain Brownlow Medallist in the coming years and he has kicked a super classy goal sprint from a stoppage and curling a banana kick around the goal post for his first major of the day.

Green and Jack Steele have both won some footy in this first term but that Green goal was a cracker.

GWS 28, Saints 7 with two mins to go in Q1.

Jack Higgins won a push in the back free kick on the boundary line and snapped the first goal of the day for the Saints.

GWS 22, Saints 7 with three mins to go in Q1.

Stephen Coniglio has pushed forward after another Saints turnover and he has booted his club’s third goal.

The Saints are still scoreless. It could be a very long afternoon if they don’t find some football.
