Caitlin Clark has been encouraged to take up a lucrative offer to play in the new Big3 tournament by former WNBA star Nancy Lieberman, who made it clear she is keen to coach the Iowa State prodigy.
Clark has broken multiple Division I records at Iowa over the last five months. To name a few, Clark is Iowa’s all-time women’s leading scorer, the Big Ten’s all-time women’s leader in assists and points, the NCAA’s Division I women’s career scoring leader, and the all-time leader in points scored in Division I history.

It is clear she is destined for the very top of the women’s game, although a $5million offer from rapper Ice Cube to participate in the Big3 could convince her to turn her back on the WNBA Draft when she graduates.
And if she does sign up, Lieberman has offered to coach the Hawkeyes guard before taking on some iconic NBA veterans, who would be among her opponents.
“I think her team-mates would set her up for success if this is what she chose,” the 65-year-old said.
“I would love to coach someone like Caitlin Clark. If given the opportunity, I certainly am not afraid of the moment.”
Lieberman actually played for the Los Angeles Lakers‘ Summer League team in 1981 and has been the head coach of the Big3’s Power since 2018, which she has described as “super competitive”.
Clark’s major career decision
If Clark decides to take the WNBA route instead, Lieberman won’t be too unhappy as she feels it might eventually force the women’s league to increase its salary due to a number of rising stars in the college ranks.
“I think it’s going to push our friends at the W(NBA) to increase salaries or some of the things that are going be negotiated in the CBA,” Lieberman said.
“She’s changing us financially and I think everybody should applaud her.”
For now, Clark has March Madness to focus on while she competes in the NCAA tournament with Iowa, with an upcoming Sweet 16 fixture against Colorado to come.
But the 22-year-old has said she will consider the offer during the tournament, giving some hope to Lieberman that her wish will come true.
