Gogglebox star George Gilbey’s mum Linda is heartbroken after her son tragically passed away at the age of 40.

George, who also appeared on Celebrity Big Brother, sadly died in a workplace accident on Wednesday. Many people have been sharing their memories and paying tribute to George since hearing the sad news, reports the Mirror.

This comes just two years after his stepdad and fellow Gogglebox star Pete passed away suddenly at the age of 71. Pete had been told he only had six months to live after being diagnosed with bowel cancer.

After hearing the shocking news of George’s death, a close friend said that his mum Linda is absolutely devastated. “First, she lost Pete, now her son as well,” they shared with The Sun. “She is incredibly emotional. George was like her little treasure.” When Pete died, Linda revealed that her son was deeply affected.

She shared: “Pete was a lovely man and I was so lucky to have him for 25 years. I said to him, ‘We’ve not only been 25 years, it’s been day and night with each other. He was my life. I have a message from a young lad I know who said, ‘Ordinary people won’t be remembered, but we’ll remember Pete forever – like the pyramids.’ I thought that was beautiful. He was so proud of George when he was in Big Brother too. Him and George really loved each other, George is really cut up.”

The trio quickly became loved by fans when they first appeared in the second series of the Channel 4 show in 2013. The family from Essex had to leave the show in 2014 when George went into the Celebrity Big Brother house, where he reached the final.

In 2016, George came back to Gogglebox with Linda and Pete McGarry, making lots of telly-watchers extremely happy. Ricci Guarnaccio, who used to be on Geordie Shore, was one of the first to share his memories of George. He posted a set of photos of himself and George on social media.
