A torso encased in plastic, discovered in Salford’s Kersal Wetlands nature reserve, has been identified as that of a male over 40 years old. This information was disclosed by Greater Manchester Police (GMP), who are currently leading a murder investigation after the remains were discovered last Thursday.

At present, PA News states that additional body parts are being sought in the surrounding area. However, according to an update delivered on Saturday, no new discoveries had been unearthed.

GMP shared that further lines of enquiry, such as DNA testing, are in progress to help identify the individual.

Salford’s district commander for GMP, Chief Superintendent Tony Creely, provided his thoughts on the situation: “This is a tragic case which is moving at pace and, thanks to forensic tests, we are able to confirm that the victim is a man who could not have survived. At the heart of our investigation is this man and his family. We are using all forensic techniques available to identify him as soon as we can so we are able to support his loved ones during this devastating time.”

Creely extended his gratitude towards the public, adding, “I would like to thank the public for their co-operation in the last few days. The presence of our officers and specialist teams will have caused disruption in the local area and may continue to for some time yet, but we value any information they have been able to pass to us.”, reports Wales Online.
