On September 22, New Jersey Sen. Bob Menendez and his wife Nadine Arslanian were indicted on ‘gold’ bribery charges.
Manhattan federal indictment recently charged Nadine Arslanian and husband Bob Menendez with taking hundreds of thousands in bribes, as per reports. This is the second time Menendez is facing federal charges.
Who is Nadine Arslanian?
Nadine is reportedly the president of Strategic International Business Consultants. Born in Beirut, Lebanon, she fled to Greece during the Lebanese civil war. From there, she moved to London and finally settled in the United States.
She got her Bachelor’s degree and a graduate degree from New York University, where she studied International Politics and French Culture and Civilization.
Nadine also has two children from her previous relationships. Her daughter studied at NYU, while her son graduated from Northeastern University.
How did the two meet?
Nadine and Bob met at an IHOP. The two were introduced by the owner of the restaurant and managed to hit it off during their first meeting.
Talking about her first impression, Nadine said: “He was very intelligent and had a great sense of humor, and he was very, very hot.” The pair soon started dating and within 10 months of their relationship, got engaged.
Later, in 2020, the two got married during the pandemic and announced the news of their marriage in a Facebook post.
What we know about their indictment
The couple were indicted on September 22 on charges that they allegedly took bribes in the form of cash, gold, and a luxury car. However, Bob has slammed the indictment.
In a statement, he said: “For years, forces behind the scenes have repeatedly attempted to silence my voice and dig my political grave. Since this investigation was leaked nearly a year ago, there has been an active smear campaign of anonymous sources and innuendos to create an air of impropriety where none exists.”
“The excesses of these prosecutors are apparent. They have misrepresented the normal work of a Congressional office. On top of that, not content with making false claims against me, they have attacked my wife for the longstanding friendships she had before she and I even met.”
