It’s one thing finding a product that really works, but finding a cheaper alternative is always a massive win. Much-loved cult classic Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream has been at the top of beauty buffs’ wishlists for decades, but beauty expert Beth has noticed a new kid on the block – the Revolution Pro Miracle Balm.

While on paper, the Revolution Pro Miracle Balm doesn’t intend to have the same skincare effects as the Elizabeth Arden, Beth has spotted some quite profound similarities when trialling both products for the last couple of weeks. This review shows that the Revolution Pro Miracle Balm is a pretty impressive multi-functional product, but does it match up to the wonderful results of the Elizabeth Arden Eight-Hour Cream?

And what better time to trial while both products are currently offering 20% off (Offer included for first-time sign-ups on the Revolution website).

Here are Beth’s findings.

I had previously seen dozens of shoppers saying that the Revolution Pro Miracle Balm was a dupe of the cult-loved Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream but having never tried the £29 skincare saviour, I could only take their word for it – until now. I’d been using the £8 Revolution Miracle Balm for a number of weeks, using it for everything from moisturising skin to taming unruly eyebrows.

But last week I unboxed the Boots x Elizabeth Arden £48 beauty box and found a 30ml sample of the iconic skin protectant inside and couldn’t believe how similar it was to the affordable Revolution alternative. Created by Elizabeth Arden in 1930, the award-winning skin protectant deeply moisturises and protects skin, and as the name suggests, is said to work in just eight hours. The multi-functional product can also be used to shape brows, add shine to cheeks, soothe dry hands, smooth cuticles and nails, and more.

Meanwhile, the new Revolution Pro Miracle Balm is an all-in-one protectant that instantly moisturises, smooths and hydrates dry, chapped skin as well as providing protection from further irritation and dryness. It joins the Revolution Pro Miracle line that followed the success of the number one best-selling Miracle Cream moisturiser, which went viral as the dupe for the Charlotte Tilbury Magic Cream.

A 42ml bottle of the Revolution balm comes in at £8, while a 50ml tube of the Elizabeth Arden version will set shoppers back £23.20 . It’s a hefty price difference for a matter of 8ml of product, so you get much more for your money with the Revolution balm.

Looking at the tubes, you may not necessarily have noticed that the Revolution Pro product would be a dupe. The packaging doesn’t appear to take inspiration from the big name brand like Aldi often does with their dupes, nor does the name suggest it would be alike. Many dupes often feature synonyms in their names, but this time, Revolution have simply named the balm after the rest of the collection, which was probably initially inspired by the Charlotte Tilbury Magic Cream.

However, when you open up the products and squeeze them out side by side, there’s no denying that the Revolution balm wanted to rival the high-end brand . Both offer a beautiful amber balm that looks almost identical on the skin – the only difference is that the Revolution product is slightly runnier.

Both of the balms are quite scented, and while it’s difficult to pinpoint what the Elizabeth Arden balm smells like, Revolutions has a more subtle rose scent. The smell of the 8-Hour skin protectant has often been discussed in reviews on the Boots website, with many saying they aren’t fond of the fragrance.

One said: “Although this miracle cream is great at what it does, I really don’t like the scent unfortunately.” But others said they found it ‘calming’. I didn’t mind the fragrance of either product and was much more concerned about their performance over their fragrance.

When it comes to the Revolution balm, some shoppers have complained that the product is ‘too thick’ and have struggled to squeeze it out of the tube, commenting: “Balm doesn’t squeeze out of the tube at all, it’s too thick and you have cut the hole bigger.” I didn’t have this issue personally, but I can imagine that maybe in winter it may be slightly more difficult to squeeze.

After squeezing both products onto the back of my hand, it was clear that they felt uncannily similar. Both are quite sticky formulas, so it may not be for you if you don’t like that texture, but they do immediately hydrate chapped, dry skin and leave it feeling so much better. They also work incredibly well as a cuticle oil and flyaway hair tamer, and I tend to keep one at home and one in my handbag for on-the-go.

The Elizabeth Arden version is the more premium product, cinching the superior title due to its more luxurious consistency and being the slightly less sticky of the two, however, I preferred the smell of the Revolution balm – not to mention the obvious price difference.

While I probably only just preferred the Elizabeth Arden balm, Revolution is a pretty impressive alternative for a much lower price. I’d only ever buy Elizabeth Arden’s version if it happened to be heavily discounted, so the Revolution Pro Miracle Balm is the perfect product if you want to save some pennies but still keep your skin in tip-top condition this summer.

You can shop the Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Skin Protectant for £16.99 on Amazon, or try it in the Boots x Elizabeth Arden beauty box, which gets you more than £115 worth of products for £48. Alternatively, you can get the Revolution Pro Miracle Balm for £8 on the Revolution website.
