Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa has shared the measures he has undertaken to safeguard himself as he looks forward to a healthy 2023 NFL season.

During the previous season, Tagovailoa experienced the most successful year of his early career, leading the NFL in passer rating (105.5). This accomplishment made him the first Dolphins quarterback to achieve such a feat since the legendary Dan Marino in 1984.

However, concerns about Tagovailoa‘s well-being arose after he endured multiple concussions in 2022, raising debates about the longevity of his NFL career.

To prepare for the upcoming season, the 25-year-old has dedicated himself to intensive training, including practicing jiu-jitsu and working out in the gym to better handle hits from defensive linemen.

Moreover, Tagovailoa believes that a new helmet design could offer enhanced protection, especially when the back of his head hits the ground after being tackled.

“Just a lot of heavier weights, a lot more reps with the heavier weights,” Tagovailoa said.

“Everything I did this offseason entailed to what would keep me on the field for the entirety of the season. We understand that freaky things can happen.

“It’s football, it’s a physical sport, not everything you prepare for is what you can get. But I did the best I could to get myself ready and prep for this season as far as injuries go.”
