BBC MasterChef chaos as John Torode forced to step in and contestant has to leave

MasterChef was thrown into total chaos as John Torode was forced to step in after one of the contestants suffered an injury.

The BBC hit cooking competition returned for another episode tonight as six hopefuls all hoped to walk away with the iconic MasterChef apron and make it through to the quarter- final.

The remaining contestants were tasked to transform a chosen everyday ingredient from Basic To Brilliant. Among the six taking part was 42-year-old Charlotte was chosen to create a plant based dish.

The amateur chef revealed that she got most of her inspiration from travelling with her husband. Speaking to the camera about her passion for cooking, she said: “What I get out of cooking that I don’t get out of my day job is a bit of therapy because it’s very relaxing and it’s a way to keep clam at the end of a stressful day.”

Gregg then asked Charlotte what her chosen ingredient for her diss is. Charlotte revealed: “My ingredient is chilli because I’m forced to have chilli with everything because of my husband.”

She added: “The dish is potsticker dumplings with fiery chilli sauce a Sichuan and green chilli oil and then some crispy chilli peanuts.”

Speaking about why she chose to go vegan, she said: “Vegan food isn’t just about hemp seeds, chickpeas and it can be really exciting and fresh.”

Minutes after sharing her excitement about her spicy vegan dish Charlotte suffered an injury as she slit her finger with her knife.

She looked panicked as she was holding her wound as it poured with blood. She then looked to production and told them that she’d cut herself and needed a plaster.

John Torode rushed over and said: “I’m sorry to say this, but you’ve actually cut the top of your finger off and that means you are going to have to go and get sorted out.”

The TV chef pointed at her chopping board, which had the missing chunk of her finger. Charlotte tried to make light of the situation as she said: “I mean I was trying to go big or go home now I’m doing both.”

John confirmed that Charlotte has to leave the competition, he told viewers: “Sadly Charlotte has cut her finger and she had to leave the Masterchef kitchen for medical attention so she won’t be finishing off her dish.”
