Usman Garuba participated in the Golden State Warriors Media Day after the Californian franchise made his two-way contract official, by which the player from Azuqueca de Henares will be able to play for the Santa Cruz Warriors in the G-League and 50 games in the NBA.

Garuba, the first Spanish player to sign with the Warriors, was a free agent after being cut by the Oklahoma City Thunder and was on the radar of Real Madrid.

“I was traded at first to Atlanta, I never got to be there. Then I got traded to OKC, I never got to be there,” he said. “And then they cut me afterwards. It’s been a long summer for me, if I’m honest. But I’m very happy to be here.

“I knew I wasn’t going to end up on the Hawks, but I thought I was going to be on the Thunder. Ultimately, this is a business and you have to understand it.

“I think I can help the team by contributing energy and effort, trying to give my best every day. I just want to help the team win and I will do whatever it takes.

“I’m excited to be able to work with everyone here. It’s a championship team that recently won the ring and, of course, there are some similarities [with Draymond Green], but I want to learn a lot from him. Seeing him every day is going to be good for me and I’m very happy.”
