The late photographer’s stepson with the star was just 13 when he lost his stepfather to a secret illness. His family released an official statement revealing when he died and the cause of death, adding he had decided to keep his health battle private.

“It is with great sadness that we share that on August 5, [name omitted] passed away peacefully after a three-year battle with ALS,” his family disclosed. They shared they honored his wish to keep his ALS battle a secret and thanked the doctors and nurses who helped him through his battle.

The photographer had been in a relationship with the actress for seven years. The pair not only hit it off, but the late photographer was also quick to bond with the star’s kids.
