Crystal Palace 0-0 Everton

Everton are finding their groove here and are enjoying a period of pressure.

McNeil floats a great ball into the Palace penalty area.

It’s a dangerous one and Henderson has to step out to punch the ball away!

The Blues retain possession and build up play again, before Harrison fires the ball out for a goalkick.

Crystal Palace 0-0 Everton

The Palace fans are up in arms here after Branthwaite crashes into Lerma, with Roy Hodgson’s side appealing for a free-kick.

VAR steps in but decideds that there is no foul!

The Blues, meanwhile, win back possession and counter on palace to win a corner.

The ball comes in and Onana can’t head it into the back of the net!

04 Jan 202421:23

Crystal Palace 0-0 Everton

Frustration from the Everton players. They win a series of corners but can’t threaten palace, with the home side defending nicely.

04 Jan 202421:21

Crystal Palace 0-0 Everton

Big chance for Calvert-Lewin.

McNeil bobbles up a pass from the left flank and the England striker is there to get on the ball.

He goes through on goal and sidefoots towards the right corner of the net but Henderson gets down low enough to block his shot!

Crystal Palace 0-0 Everton

Onana gives away a free-kick on the left side and Palace have a chance to swing a ball in from a difficult angle to defend.

Eze Swings the ball in and Anderson gets a head on to the ball.

It’s an awkward header but Virginia is there to punch away.

Crystal Palace 0-0 Everton

Palace look dangerous in broken play here with, the Toffees not as quick to get back when they lose possession.

Eze has has been dangerous picking off lose passes so far but Palace, again, have failed to largely take their chances.

Meanwhile, the Eagles are wearing a special edition kit tonight. The blue, red and white fourth kit is being worn to help raise funds for Palace for Life Foundation.

One thousand replica shirts were made and have already sold out, but Palace fans hoping to get their hands on the limited edition shirt can still bid for one of the jerseys being worn tonight by their team. The auction for the shirts is set to stop on January 17.

04 Jan 202421:10, 50

Crystal Palace 0-0 Everton

Great effort from Eze, Palace have started this half much brighter.

He twists away from Onana and gets a thumping shot off at the goal from just outside the penalty area.

Virginia is there to block the shot but it goes out for a corner.

Eze swings it in again and Lerma gets a head on the ball but Virginia just about hangs on to the ball.

04 Jan 202421:04, 46

We’re back underway!

No changes at half-time from either manager.

Palace get us underway and they launch it forwards with the ball going out for a throw-in.

Let’s hope for a few goals in this half.

Olise’s absence a big blow for the Eagles

Michael Olise suffered a hamstring injury during Palace’s 3-1 victory against Brentford last week.

He’s not been included in the squad to take on Everton tonight and Roy Hodgson was unable to give an update on when he could return.

The next question will be how long is he out but I can’t answer that one.

‘We’re hoping this one won’t be as bad as the one that put him out for six months. We don’t think and hope it won’t be like that.’

04 Jan 202420:57

Onana’s numbers from midfield

Some impressive numbers from Onana coming in at half-time, but should he have received a yellow card for that tackle on Lerma?

04 Jan 202420:48, 45

HT: Crystal Palace 0-0 Everton

An interesting first-half. Both sides could be heading into the sheds in the lead considering some of the chances they’ve had.

Palace will be kicking themsleves they couldn’t capitalise on Franca’s dangerous cross at the end of that half, while Danjuma has ran riot for Everton up front.

Lerma had perhaps the best chance for the home side, but failed to keep his shot on target and that was perhaps the tale of the tape for Roy Hodgson’s side who have had four attempts so far but have failed to get a single shot on target.

Everton, similarly, have had four shots but have kept just one on target.

I have to say though, Palace are really moving the ball well, the chemistry between their front four is starting to heat up…

04 Jan 202420:47, 44

Crystal Palace 0-0 Everton

Just one minute of added time for the first half.

Franca is back on the ball here and he plays a great cut back from the byline into the Everton box.

It’s a dangerous ball and Everton don’t deal with it! But they’re lucky as no one connects with the cross and Sean Dyche’s side survive the attack.

04 Jan 202420:46

Crystal Palace 0-0 Everton

This game has really opened up now. Mateta chases down a through ball and if he gets to it Everton are in deep trouble.

But a brilliant piece of defending from Coleman cuts out the attack, with the Irishman just getting to the ball before the Palace forward.

It’s a big night for the Everton captain, who has made history playing in his 14th FA Cup campaign – equalling a club-record set by Jack Taylor.

04 Jan 202420:42, 38

Crystal Palace 0-0 Everton

Huge chance for Lerma! Palace are showing their patience here and move the ball well.

Schlupp finds Eze on the edge of the box who lays off to Lerma.

He arrives onto the ball and hits his chance over the bar!

That’s the tale of the half so far. Both sides getting into dangerous spaces but haven’t been clinical enough.

Meanwhile, here’s a couple of action shots from the first half…

Crystal Palace 0-0 Everton

Palace continue to attack, Schlupp finds himself on the left and cuts the ball back into the box.

It loops across the goal but who’s there to clear it away? Mykolenko.

That ball could have easily gone into the net though, a sigh of relief for Everton!

04 Jan 202420:36

Crystal Palace 0-0 Everton

Palace win a corner! It was a frantic passage of play and looked like Onana had fouled Lerma in the build up, taking the Palace midfielder out in a one-vs-one challenge.

Anyway the ball comes in and Mykolenko clears it… but Everton aren’t out of trouble just yet…

04 Jan 202420:34

Palace’s January targets

Could Palace swoop in to sign Andrey Santos on loan this Janaury?

Mail Sport understands the Eagles have an interest in the midfielder who has struggled for game time after going on loan to Nottingham Forest from Chelsea after signing for the Blues in January of last year.

04 Jan 202420:31

Crystal Palace 0-0 Everton

Everton hit the woodwork!

Danjuma is really enjoying himself out there and he’s just won Everton a free-kick.

Garner fires the ball in and it takes a nick and bounces off the post!

That was a close one – Palace breathe a sigh of belief…

Crystal Palace 0-0 Everton

Dangerous free-kick for Palace.

Everton have had plenty of the ball in the last ten minutes, but they can’t seem to stop Palace on the break.

Franca gets on the ball and drives through the Everton line at pace.

He gets clattered by James Tarkowski on the edge of the penalty area, in a huge collision.

No booking for the Everton defender though despite it being a pretty massive collision!

Eze’s stood over this one…

04 Jan 202420:24

Crystal Palace 0-0 Everton

It’s a great corner in from McNeil but Henderson manages to get his gloves to the ball slowing down the attack.

04 Jan 202420:22, 19

Crystal Palace 0-0 Everton

Another chance for Everton.

Everton win the flick on in the middle of the pitch, with Harrison receiving the ball before playing in Danjuma.

The 26-year-old has bags of pace and turns on the afterburners, flying forward before thumping a left-footed shot from a tight angle towards the goal.

Henderson flicks it over the bar for a corner!

04 Jan 202420:19

Crystal Palace 0-0 Everton

Danjuma hits the side netting!

Everton have their first dangerous attack, working the ball into the Palace box, before firnding Danjuma out on the left side of the penalty area.

He winds up a powerful strike, but the ball is deflected into the side netting.

04 Jan 202420:15

Crystal Palace 0-0 Everton

Eze gets booked for a dive!

Onana holds out his arm to stop the Palace attacker from advancing forwards.

He makes contact but it’s not enough in the eyes of referee Chris Kavanagh who books him for simulation.

04 Jan 202420:13, 9

Crystal Palace 0-0 Everton

Eze does really well to break down the right flank. He’s got bags of pace and almost gets away from Onana, but the Everton midfielder does enough to cut out the dangerous attack before winning a free-kick.

Both sides are pretty well set up here, a credit to Hodgson and Dyche who are both hunkered down on the touchline trying to shelter from the torrential rain.

Crystal Palace 0-0 Everton

Bright start from Palace. While Everton have had the lion’s share of possession, they’ve broken through on the visitor’s goal twice now.

Mateta certainly looks dangerous up top and Everton have to be careful of Palace’s pace here.

Crystal Palace 0-0 Everton

Everton seem to have had the majority of possession early on but both sides seem to be sussing eachother out.

Interesting to see Sean Dyche rest Jordan pickford for tonight’s game.

And he’s just been called into action early on comfortably taking control of a bouncing shot from Schlupp.

04 Jan 202420:01, 1

Kick off!

We are underway at Selhurst Park!

The rain is coming down sideways here!

Despite that, the third round begins!

04 Jan 202420:00

Quick reminder on tonight’s teams…

Crystal Palace XI: Henderson, Mitchell, Guehi, Andersen, Clyne, Schlupp, Eze, Richards, Lerma, Franca, Mateta.

SubsMatthews, Tomkins, Adaramola, Ebiowei, Hughes, Ahamada, Riedewald, Ozoh, Edouard.

Everton XI: Virginia, Mykolenko, Branthwaite, Tarkowski, Coleman, Danjuma, McNeil, Onana, Garner, Harrison, Calvert-Lewin.

Subs: Pickford, Godfrey, Patterson, Keane, Gomes, Hunt, Beto, Chermiti, Dobbin.

04 Jan 202419:58

Here come the teams!

The rain is stil pouring here in south London!

But there’s nothing quite like Selhurst Park under the lights and the stadium is absolutely rocking as the players make their way onto the pitch.

Prediction time – Who’s making it to the next round?

04 Jan 202419:56

Big opportunity for Franca tonight!

He makes his first start for Crystal Palace tonight and Roy Hodgson has lumped praise on the winger.

Speaking to ITV Sport, Hodgson was asked what fans can expect from him, stating: ‘They’re going to be hoping to see another Michael Olise. Someone who’s good on the ball and can create chances. These are things he’s got in his locker.’

Hodgson lumps praise on Everton

Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson has lumped praise on Everton claiming Sean Dyche will have his side set up well ahead of tonight’s game.

‘They will be organised. They will be disciplined and hard-working,’ he said to BBC Sport.

‘They will know exactly what their jobs are on the field. They will know what they need to do to stop us playing and cause us problems.

‘I am describing what a good manager and coach will try to produce, and I am talking about a good manager and coach in Sean Dyche.

‘He has got good players and it’s a very tough game.’

04 Jan 202419:45

‘My respect to the FA Cup is clear’: Dyche

Sean Dyche has spoken to ITV Sport on tonight’s opposition, claiming that Palace will be a tough challenge before adding that while the Premier League is Everton’s No 1 priority, he is paying due respect to the FA Cup.

They [Palace] got the result after a tough run of games. [They have] a very wise manager and I’m not sure if they will make changes.

Cup situations often offer changes to the side and the feel of the game. We have to make sure we are ready.

The Premier League is number one, but my respect to the FA Cup is clear.

We were trying to put out a team to win the Carabao Cup and will put out a team with a mentality that wants to win.

04 Jan 202419:34

Sean Dyche wants NO winter break

Ahead of tonight’s match, the Everton boss claimed that the Premier League should scrap the upcoming winter break as it creates an inbalanced fixture schedule list that favours big clubs.

‘I don’t see the point of the break. It’s not beneficial and I’d take it away. It would be better to lose a couple of fixtures in December and put them in January to spread it out,’ argued the Blues boss.

‘With more games (close together) the big clubs are bound to gain because of their big squads. If you’re like us and get injuries, you’re stretched. I’d be surprised if that break doesn’t disappear from the scheduling. We will see.’

04 Jan 202419:26

The stats that matter…

As we’ve said earlier, Palace recently won their quarter-final clash against Everton back in March 2022, a 4-0 at Selhurst Park, but they’ve only beaten the merseyside outfit in the tournament on two of their six meetings.

Even so, Everton’s recent record in the FA Cup against Premier League opposition isn’t that great either. They’ve lost seven of their last nine games against teams from the top flight. And have not won an FA CUp game in London (D4 L8), since they beat Man United at Wembley in the 1995 final.

Looks like the players are coming out to warm up, with Joao Virginia, who will take the gloves off Jordan Pickford for tonight’s game stepping out into the rain!

A drenched Selhurst Park!

Update from our reporter Kieran Gill who is at the stadium tonight, and the rain doesn’t look like it’s going to stop any time soon.

In any event we could be in for a big game of football tonight with both side’s fielding strong sides!

Kieran said: ‘At Selhurst Park (a drenched Selhurst Park) for Crystal Palace and Everton. Strong side from Sean Dyche, including Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Dwight McNeil, Jarrad Branthwaite, Amadou Onana, etc.’

04 Jan 202419:12

A record breaking night for the Everton captain!

Coleman came off the bench to feature during Everton’s 3-0 defeat by Wolves last week, having also played during their win against Newcastle earlier in December.

He’ll tie Jack Taylor’s record for the outfield player to feature in the most FA Cup campaigns for the club at 14.

04 Jan 202419:01

Breaking: Roy Hodgson names a strong XI!

Roy Hodgson has named a strong squad for tonight’s clash against Everton.

He’ll make two changes from their side that beat Brentford, with Jeffrey Schlupp coming in for Jordan Ayew up top, while Michael Olise misses out on tonight’s match with Matheus França dropping into midfield.

04 Jan 202419:00

Breaking: Coleman starts for Everton!

After an injury hampered season, Coleman is back to start today for the Toffees and will also captain the side.

Sean Dyche has made several changes to the team that was beaten by Wolves last week.

Pickford is out for Virginia, Coleman comes in for Patterson, Keane drops out with Danjuma coming in for McNeil.

04 Jan 202418:59

Everton are in the house!

I’m seeing lots of chatter that Seamus Coleman could be in line to make an appereance for Everton tonight.

The Everton captain could make his 412th appearance for the club, putting him two behing Everton’s all-time leading appearance maker, Tim Howard.

Coleman could have surpassed that record much earlier but has been out of action for the majority of the 2023-24 season after suffering a knee ligament injury back in May.

Hodgeson brands sacking speculation ‘disrespectful’

Roy Hodgeson hit out at talk of being sacked following Crystal Palace’s win against Brentford last week, branding the talk ‘disrespectful’

‘I tell you what I really think,’ Hodgson said. ‘I’m 76. I’ve been working for 47 years. I’ve got a CBE for my services to football. I’ve got a CV which is incredible.

‘So I’m afraid my answer to you is that makes no difference or is of any interest to me at all and to suggest it should is disrespectful. That’s what I think.’

Pressure has been mounting on the Palace boss after his side had gone eight games without a win heading into last week’s game against Brentford.

A win today could again be pivotal for the Eagles boss as they look to book their place in the fourth round.

04 Jan 202418:47

Inside the dressing rooms…

Palace will wear their fourth kit for tonight’s game against Everton, who are also wearing their grey third kit.

But Roy Hodgsons’ side have only beaten the Toffees once in their last five meetings.

Interestingly that was a huge 4-0 win back in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup, where Guehi, Mateta, Zaha and Hughes all scored to help the Eagles progress to the semi-finals.

04 Jan 202418:41

The Eagles have landed!

Roy Hodgson’s side have arrived at Selhurst Park ahead of the game.

They’ll be looking to pick up from where they left off against Brentford earlier in the week after besting Thomas Frank’s side 3-1.

It was their first win in eight Premier League appearances, with the Eeagles notably having also claimed draws against Brighton, Man City and West Ham in that time.

04 Jan 202418:38

Breaking: Just in! The referees are inspecting the pitch!

The rain has been pouring down in south London all day and referee Chris Kavanagh has been out inspecting the playing surface at Selhurst Park.

We’re approximately 80 minutes now away from kick-off so hopefully things will go ahead!

04 Jan 202418:35

Good evening and welcome!

It’s a windy and wet night at Selhurst Park, with Crystal Palace looking to claim their second successive win in all competitions against Everton tonight in the third-round of the FA Cup.

Storm Henk has blasted its way through south London in the last few days and does not seem to be relenting, with the rain pouring down over the roof of the stands here at Selhurst Park.

Despite that, we’re in for a huge night of action, with both teams in need of a win as they look to book their place in the fourth round of the tournament.

We’ll have live updates, commentary coming your way over the course of the next few hours, so make sure to not go anywhere!
