Everton would value Amadou Onana in excess of Romeo Lavia’s selling price should Manchester United firm up their interest.

Southampton want around £60million from Liverpool and Chelsea for Belgium international Lavia as their transfer pursuit draws to a conclusion.

And the price has been noted by Everton who believe Onana is at a more advanced level than his Southampton compatriot with greater Premier League experience and a greater standing within the national team.

As Mail Sport reported, Onana is of interest to United but because of the restrictions of FFP they need to sell before they can buy.

They regard Onana highly but believe his value is too high for their current budget and they retain interest in Fiorentina’s Sofyan Amrabat who would cost around £25million.

Though the clubs have held some discussions there has yet to be an official approach from United.

Everton would not be interested in swap deals should they sell and would want considerable profit on a player they believe has the potential to be one of the best midfielders in the Premier League.

They beat West Ham to sign the 21-year-old from Lens last summer for £33m and his early promise prompted Chelsea to make an offer around £50m for him in January while Arsenal also expressed interest.

Club insiders also insist they are under no immediate pressure to sell the 6ft5′ holding player.

United are working through a number of options as they look to strengthen in defence, midfield and at goalkeeper despite their financial restrictions.

They have sold Fred to Fenerbahce for £12.9m, remain in talks with Real Sociedad over Donny van de Beek and know West Ham could yet return for £45m-rated Scott McTominay.

They have still to officially accept West Ham’s offer for Harry Maguire also as they look to line up a replacement first such as Benjamin Pavard of Bayern Munich or Jean-Clair Todibo at Nice.

For their part, Everton’s focus is to strengthen in attack. They still want Leeds United’s Willy Gnonto after adding Jack Harrison from Leeds and another striker.
