The 2024 Oscar nominations have been officially revealed, and there were 10 first-time nominees, including Cillian Murphy, America Ferrera, Colman Domingo, Emily Blunt and Lily Gladstone.

Murphy scored a nod for best leading actor for his portrayal of J. Robert Oppenheimer, and Blunt received a nom for best supporting actress for her role of Kitty Oppenheimer in Oppenheimer. The Christopher Nolan-directed film received 11 other nominations.

Gladstone is not only a first-time Oscar nominee but also the first Native American acting nominee. She earned a best leading actress nod for her role of Mollie Burkhart in Killers of the Flower Moon, which scored nine other noms. “It’s long overdue. I feel like it’s circumstantial that it’s me because there have been so many immense, incredible performances,” she told The Hollywood Reporter after learning of her nom. “I stand on the shoulders of some unbelievable talent.”

Ferrera is nominated for best supporting actress for her role of Gloria in Greta Gerwig’s Barbie. The film also received seven additional nominations. “All of the women in the incredible category that I get to be a part of: Da’Vine [Joy Randolph] and Danielle [Brooks] and Emily [Blunt] and Jodie [Foster], [their] work is just so beautiful,” she told THR on Tuesday. “It’s truly unbelievable to me that I get to be a part of the conversation with all of this amazing work being done all around.”

Domingo scored his first Oscar nom for best leading actor for his portrayal of Bayard Rustin in Rustin, directed by George C. Wolfe. He told THR after he learned of his nomination, “I was stunned, almost like it didn’t happen.”

As for Da’Vine Joy Randolph, she earned a best supporting actress nod for her role of Mary Lamb in The Holdovers, which also received four other nominations. “It’s so exciting,” she told THR of her nom. “So many beautiful artists being nominated this year: Colman, The Holdovers family, Danielle Brooks, Emily Blunt.”

Jeffrey Wright and Sterling K. Brown both scored first-time Oscar nominations for American Fiction. Wright is nominated for best leading actor for his role of Thelonious ‘Monk’ Ellison, and Brown is nominated for best supporting actor for Clifford Ellison. The Cord Jefferson-directed film received three additional nods.

Danielle Brooks earned a nom for best supporting actress for her role of Sofia in The Color Purple. “No one can do a project by themselves,” she told THR of her solo nom for the Blitz Bazawule-directed film. “I did not get here on my own. I can’t act by myself. I’m surely not holding boom mics and picking out costumes and doing choreography on my own. So, I just I just feel like I’m doing this for everybody. I’m hoping that we can garner a win for the efforts of everybody that was a part of this beautiful production.”

Sandra Hüller is nominated for best leading actress for her role of Sandra Voyter in Anatomy of a Fall. The Justine Triet-directed movie received four other nods.

The 96th Academy Awards, hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, will air live at 4 p.m. PT/7 p.m. ET on ABC on Sunday, March 10, from the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood.
