Full Story

Maluma, the Colombian superstar, visited the Baptist Health Miami Cancer Institute to celebrate Women’s Month and the launch of his latest song “La Reina” on March 9. He surprised cancer patients, survivors, and women physicians with his visit, which was aimed at giving them hope, strength, and positivity. Maluma has always felt a strong connection with patients battling with cancer, and his presence brought smiles to the faces of those at the hospital.

In 2019, Maluma had already visited the hospital, where he had donated his hair, and let some of the children give him a haircut. Talking about his recent visit, he said, “I wanted to come and celebrate with these queens at the [Miami Cancer Institute]. I think that for me, that was the most important thing — coming here, making them smile, contributing in a small way so they can feel like what they are, like queens every day.”

Dr. Jane Mendez, chief of breast surgery with Baptist Health Miami Cancer Institute, appreciated Maluma’s efforts and said, “After all, we all are ‘reinas.’” Maluma also shared his experience on Instagram and captioned his video with a message that translates to, “Meeting so many women, with so many stories is everything to me! THEY ARE ALL QUEENS.”

Maluma’s latest single “La Reina” is from his upcoming album “Don Juan.” The song celebrates the beauty of Colombian women and features everyday women from different walks of life. The music video spotlights the stories of women and their struggles, including those of a mother who survived a chemical-agent attack, a woman with down syndrome, and a woman who reveals her mastectomy scars.

Maluma’s mission to celebrate and honor women is commendable, and his visit to the hospital is a reminder that even small gestures can help to bring hope and positivity in times of difficulty. His music and presence continue to inspire and uplift people worldwide.
