The 38-years-old, Elizabeth Holmes is a former biotechnology entrepreneur from Washington, D.C., the U.S. who was convicted of criminal fraud. She is famous for being the founder and the chief executive officer (CEO) of Theranos. Theranos, a now-defunct health technology company that soared in valuation after the company claimed to have revolutionized blood testing by developing methods that could use surprisingly small volumes of blood, such as from a fingerprick was launched in 2003. Further, a federal grand jury indicted Holmes and former Theranos chief operating officer (COO) Ramesh Balwani on nine counts of wire fraud and two counts of conspiracy to commit wire fraud, with the victims being investors and patients in the same year of June month. Her trial in the case of U.S. v. Holmes, et al. ended in January 2022 when Holmes was convicted of defrauding investors, and not guilty of defrauding patients. Due to this, she faces up to 20 years in federal prison. Her sentencing is scheduled for September 26, 2022.
