Tottenham midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg was the victim of an unfortunate gaffe on the ball during their game with West Ham on Wednesday.

The Swiss star was making just his third start of the season for Ange Postecoglou‘s side in the London derby after slipping down the pecking order.

As he ran in behind to receive a pass from Brennan Johnson in the first half, Hojberg went to cross the ball.

However, the midfielder tried to hit it with his left foot first time, but the ball bounced off his standing right foot.

As a result, Hojberg completely missed the ball and fell over in hilarious fashion.

And, following the incident fans were quick to mock the midfielder for his amusing error.

One said: ‘This is what the Internet is for. Great skills from Hojbjerg for Spurs.’

Another quipped: ‘Poor dive from Hojbjerg that,’ while a further fan joked: ‘Hojberg got skills.’

More supporters piled in on the unfortunate Swiss star – who joined Spurs from Southampton in 2020 for £15million.

One added: ‘Do Southampton somehow have a buyback clause on Hojbjerg? I think the Championship would suit him well.’

Injury-ravaged Spurs came into the clash having secured a memorable 3-3 draw away at Man City on Sunday.

They sat in fifth place ahead of kick off, three points behind Pep Guardiola’s side in fourth after picking up just one point from their past four games.

Spurs started well, with Cristian Romero heading home for his first goal at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to put them 1-0 up 11 minutes.
