Before his death at age 25 in late July, Angus Cloud — known for playing Fezco on the hit HBO series Euphoria for two seasons — finished filming a star turn in writer-director Dan Brown’s thriller Your Lucky Day.

The trailer for Brown’s lotto-win hostage flick, which dropped on Friday, reveals Cloud as Sterling, a petty criminal-turned-hostage taker in one of his final film performances. In Your Lucky Day, a dispute over a $156 million winning Megaball Jackpot lottery ticket has a masked and hooded Sterling launching a deadly hostage situation in a small convenience store on Christmas Eve that leads to a rookie cop being shot and the winning ticket holder killed by gunfire.

Soon the witnesses to the shootings must decide how far they’ll go, and how much blood they’re willing to spill, for a cut of the $156 million. “Nobody ever got rich without doing no crime,” Sterling says at one point in the trailer as the six convenience store strangers debate the morality of participating in a murder cover-up for a split of the winning ticket proceeds.

“This could be our chance at a better life,” a young man tells his pregnant wife in the trailer. As the spiraling pressure-cooker, life-or-death situation unravels with a rendition of “America the Beautiful” playing in the background, a final showdown in the convenience store shows more cops looking for their own cut of the winning lottery ticket.

“Give us the ticket. We’ll let you walk away,” the convenience store occupants are told before more gunfire rings out and a final battle for the winning ticket reaches a climax. In the end, Brown’s debut feature explores the poisonous heart of the American dream sparking a nightmare for all involved.

“Movies are for everyone, so the goal was to make a thrilling, fun and entertaining movie that could also be about something deeper — a look at one of those larger-than-life moments that we all hope for and ask, ‘Is this really worth it?’” Brown said in a director’s statement.
