A 16-year-old has been charged with murder after the stabbing of two teenagers outside a school in Sydney’s west on Friday afternoon, while police continue to search for other suspected assailants.

The two teenagers turned up at a police station on Friday with stab wounds after an altercation at a bus stop outside Crawford Public School on Power Street, Doonside.

Police had been called to the site of the stabbing around 3.40pm, but by the time they arrived the teenagers had already been driven to Blacktown Police Station.

They were treated by paramedics at the station, but an 18-year-old could not be saved and died at the scene. The other injured teenager, 19, was taken to Westmead Hospital where he remains in a serious but stable condition.

Police arrested a 16-year-old near the scene later that evening, and police hope to make more arrests on Saturday.

The apprehended teenager was charged with murder and refused bail to appear in court today.

Police are investigating whether the teenagers were involved in an altercation on a bus before the fatal stabbing. One line of inquiry is whether the stabbings were part of the so-called “postcode wars” involving rival teenagers from neighbouring suburbs.
