Luke Littler was lost for words after stunning the sporting world once again with a sensational performance to make the World Darts Championship final at just 16 – but revealed he’ll be sticking to his traditional pre-match routine.

The teenager has dominated the back pages in the last week during his fairy tale run to the final, beating the likes of Raymond van Barneveld, Brendan Dolan and Rob Cross along the way.

On Tuesday night he faced his toughest challenge to date on his tournament debut by beating 2018 champion Cross, having lost the first set and then sealing the final three on the bounce to win 6-2. He will face Luke Humphries in Wednesday’s showpiece.

Following his seismic victory he was understandably stunned and seemingly at a loss for words, shrugging and shaking his head when asked for his opinion of the encounter. 

‘No words!’ He said, before adding: ‘Crazy to think I’m in a World Championship debut in my final. I was happy winning one game but I could go all the way!

‘You’re playing Rob (Cross), he’s a world champion and won on debut same as me. Rob told me “God bless, respect to you – you’re a step away, do it”.

‘I’ve just settled on the stage. It took me a few legs to settle in the game and once I found that rhythm I was good to go!’

‘I’ll do what I’ve been doing. In the morning, go for a ham and cheese omelette, then come here have a pizza and then practice! That’s what I’ve done every day.’

Littler initially grabbed the headlines after it emerged that he enjoyed a kebab after every match. 

The teenager has consistently defied expectations in making the final, breaking records along the way. 

Not only is he the youngest player to ever make the last-16, last-eight, last-four and now the final, but his quarter-final clash with Dolan drew the biggest viewership of any past last-eight clash in the competition’s history. 

He had only every played in four PDC premier event matches ahead of the tournament, and now has a shot at the £500,000 grand prize.

Former four-time semi-finalist Wayne Mardle was quick to hail the ‘magnificent’ Littler after his win, praising the youngster’s temperament in what is undoubtedly the biggest match of his life.
