Meanwhile, brighton are making three changes here with Joao Pedro, Facundo Buonanotte and Igor Julio all coming on for James Milner, Adam Lallana and Evan Ferguson.

Arsenal’s press has been really good in the first half and they’re moving up high on Brighton at the start.

Arsenal dominated Brighton in the first half for attempts on goal, yet Roberto De Zerbi’s side were unable to get a single shot on target.

Their xG currently sits at zero, and it is the first time in 49 games under the Italian manager that they have failed to have a shot in the first half, according to Opta.

After having been banned from the touchline for Arenal’s defeat by Aston Villa last week, Arteta picked up another yellow card in the first half of today’s match.

It’s his fourth booking of the season, with Arteta venting towards referee Tim Robinson after Bukayo Saka was fouled by Kaoru Mitoma.

We go in goalless at the break. Arsenal looked dangerous in that first half but they’ve struggled to put their chances away.

From Brighton’s point of view, they’ve looked good in defence but they’ve struggled to get Evan Ferguson in the game.

Arsenal meanwhile have had 15 attempts on goal but only three of those have resulted in shots on target.

Lewis-Potter gives the hostst the lead.

He strikes home a rebound low into the bottom-left corner to give the Bees the lead.

Yellow card for Mikel Arteta and Mitoma

Mitoma pulls Saka off the ball right in front of the Arsenal boss and Arteta is less than impressed.

He lets the referee know what he thinks about the foul and receives a yellow card!

Interestingly, it comes after Arteta was cleared of misconduct and was banned from the touchline last week.

While we’ve been away Veltman has had to leave the field due to that earlier knee injury. Hinshelwood is on in his place.

Arsenal, meanwhile, are on the attack again and they just can’t put away their chances.

A fantastic pass from Odegaard sees Martinelli go down the left wing. He reaches the byline and plays a ball in and it drops to Havertz who shoots but Van Hecke is there to clear with some brilliant defending.

Kudus at the double!

He gets his second of the game in similar circumstances to the previous!

Paqueta plays him in and the former Ajax man runs into the box before hitting the ball with his right foot across the goalkeeper.

Only Jarrod Bowen has more goals for West Ham (10) in all competitions than Kudus (9).

He goes through into the penalty area, but cuts the ball back to Martinelli, who fires his shot over the cross bar!

Back to Arsenal now and its been a bit of a physical start to this match.

Jesus concededs a foul after bringing Gilmour to the floor before Arsenal win a free kick in the middle of the field.

Arsenal have possession again and are looking very dangerous with Martinelli and Saka on both wings.

Mohammed Kudus puts West Ham ahead

After scoring in midweek, Kudus is back again to find the back of net, breaking into the penalty area before firing West Ham 1-0 up with an excellent left-footed strike.

Veltman looks like he’s twisted his knee awkwardly here – he’ll go off for some treatment.

Meanwhile, Arsenal have a corner on the left side, the ball gets cleared out but they work it back in, with the ball coming in to Gabriel who gets above Milner and heads into the arms of Verbruggen.

Milner’s just left one on Saka on the right wing here.

He’s had a few issues trying to contain the Arsenal forward so far, but it’s a rough challenge on the Arsenal star, who’s caused problems already for the former Liverpool midfielder.

Arsenal will have a free kick but Milner escapes further sanction.

Now Odegaard gets in on the action!

He bends a curling shot from the edge of the penalty area towards the left corner of the goal but it narrowly drifts wide.

That was close!

Rice and Saka combine in a brilliant one-two with the former West Ham man laying off to Saka, who gets another shot away on goal.

Arsenal looking more in control here at the start but Brighton are looking comfortable.

Saka gets into a good position inside the penalty area and gets the edge on James Milner before getting a shot away.

It’s comfortably saved by Verbruggen, but Saka looks dangerous down the right wing.

Arsenal have started well and are controlling possession so far.

Martin Odegaard has just gone down after seeming to take a whack to the chest. He seems a little shaken but looks like he will be okay to continue.

The England star has been prolific at home this season and has failed to not register either a goal or an assist at the Emirates.

Roberto De Zerbie has called today’s game a ‘big challenge’ and believes his side’s experienced players will need to stand up against Arsenal.

‘For our mentality it is a big challenge today, we have to show the same mentality on Thursday in the Europa League and compete in the Premier League as well.

‘We won our last two games here in the Carabao and the Premier League but it is not the same. Today is a new game and a different game for us.’

He added: ‘We need fresh energy, fresh players, we have to run, we have to fight. Lallana, Milner, Veltman, they are all with great experience and to play in this type of game we need it.’

Mikel Arteta has issued a rallying cry on his players ahead of today’s match to improve on their recent performances.

‘We have to deserve to win,’ he said to BBC Sport.

‘We are going to have to play a good game against a really good side who have experience here. If we do that we will win the game.

‘They have a really specific way of playing, of pressing, and in the line. You have to really efficient in certain spaces, decision-making to play in the open spaces and be more ruthless than we were last year.”

After a great start to the season, qualifying for the knockout stages of the Europa League and rising eighth in the Premier League, Lewis Dunk has admitted that while there’s a lot of positivity around the Amex Stadium, his side can still improve.

Dunk said to Sky Sports: ‘There’s loads of positivity especially after Thursday but in the league we’re behind where we want to be. We dropped too many points this season from the positions we’ve been in.

On his side’s record at the Emirates: ‘We’ve had a good record here. It’s not an easy place to come. They’re flying this year in the league and we know it’s going to be tough but we’ve prepared well from Thursday and we’re covered and we’re ready to go.’

We’re 30 minutes away from kick-off with Arsenal and Brighton out on the pitch completing their warm-ups.

Mikel Arteta was cleared of misconduct on Thursday last week after he had hit out at officials for allowing a goal to stand during Arsenal’s 1-0 defeat by Newcastle back in November.

But he has since been speaking out on his comments, claiming that he hopes his sanction will help the FA’s process of dealing with criticism from football managers.

He said: ‘A lot of things have happened in the league that are similar. It happened with bringing in all the players, bringing in new ownership, bringing in new sponsors, bringing in new managers, new CEOs, new sporting directors.

‘We are an incredible league, and that has happened because there were changes. It will improve the league for sure.’

David Moyes has made just one change following his side’s 1-0 victory against Freiburg in midweek with Kurt Zouma coming in for Konstantinos Mavropanos.

Edson Alvarez is fit to start despite picking up an injury in midweek.

Unai Emery’s side could go top of the Premier League table with a win this afternoon.

Aston Villa have made four changes to their side that beat Arsenal 1-0 last weekend in the Premier League, with Matty Cash, Alex Moreno, Moussa Diaby and Jacob Ramsey all coming into the starting line-up.

Aston Villa XI: Martinez, Konsa, Diego Carlos, Torres, Cash, Kamara, Ramsey, McGinn, Alex Moreno, Diaby, Watkins.

With Bryan Mbeumo sidelined for three months, Thomas Frank has made three changes to his Brentford side following their defeat by Sheffield Wendesday.

Mathias Jorgensen, Mikkel Damsgaard and Mads Roerslev all come in to the starting line-up for today’s match.

Brentford XI: Flekken, Jorgensen, Pinnock, Mee, Ghoddos, Damsgaard, Norgaard, Janelt, Roerslev, Lewis-Potter, Wissa.

David Raya has been speaking on the challenge he has had adapting to life at Arsenal after joining on loan from Brentford earlier this summer.

Raya said to Sky Sports: ‘It is a big change from Brentford and I’m still adapting to the club to the team-mates, the staff and everything. But the challenge is incredible and I think we’re showing the team that we are.

On Brighton’s excellent record at the Emirates he added: ‘That’s in the past, we have to focus on the present and focus on today and I think we have a big chance to get three points at home.’

The former England forward had been ruled out since October with a hamstring injury.

He missed 11 games across all competitions but today has been named on Brighton’s bench to play against Arsenal.

Thomas Frank has arrived at the GTECH community stadium! His side have endured a tough period of late winning just one of their last five league outings – a 3-1 victory against Luton.

They come into today’s game against a high-flying Aston Villa side with several injuries, with star forward Bryan Mbeumo set to be ruled out for three months having undergone surgery on an ankle injury.

Aston Villa, meanwhile, claimed a huge victory against Arsenal last weekend that has propelled them to third in the Premier League table, just two points off league leaders Liverpool.

Should they win today and other results go their way, Unai Emery’s side can go top of the Premier League, having gone unbeaten in their last eight games. Despite that, Villa have not beaten Brentford in west London in their last 11 meetings!

Speaking ahead of the game, Mikel Arteta has urged his side to learn from their 3-0 defeat by Brighton last season.

The Arsenal boss said: ‘They are a really good side. Last year when we had the game under control was when we conceded a goal and then the game completely broke up and we struggled.

‘Especially in the last 15 minutes of the game, so we have to play better and be very efficient, which is key against them.’

Brighton’s record at the Emirates Stadium will give Roberto De Zerbi’s side a lot of confidence coming into this match.

They have beaten Arsenal in their last three visits to north London, with the Seagulls claiming a 3-0 victory at the Emirates in their most previous meeting.

Roberto De Zerbi’s side are also unbeaten in their last three matches, having claimed a big 1-0 victory against Marseille in midweek, that saw them gain automatic qualification for the knockout stages of the Europa League.

Victory today could see them jump above Man United in seventh place and go just three points off Tottenham in fifth.

Mikel Arteta’s side come into today’s match hoping to return to winning ways after they suffered their first defeat in six matches to Aston Villa, which they followed up with a 1-1 draw away to PSV Eindhoven in midweek.

Despite that, they’re still second in the Premier League and a win today can see Arsenal leapfrog Liverpool at the top of the Premier League table by two points, with Jurgen Klopp’s side set to play later on this afternoon.

But a loss could see the Gunners suffer their first three-match winless run for the first time since April.

They face stern opponents in Brighton today, who have a good record at the Emirates Stadium, having won in their last three outings in north London.
