Expert guide to Jackson Hole
The ski area’s resort, known as Teton Village, is a horseshoe-shaped community of shops, lodgings and resort admin offices planted snugly at the base of the ski area. Comparatively quieter than Jackson, the village has several bars and restaurants and does host concerts and après events during winter.
However, this setup of the ski area at Teton Village – 12 miles from the town of Jackson – poses a conundrum. Do you stay in Teton Village (rather dwarfed by the huge, slope-side Four Seasons’ Hotel) and travel to Jackson for your evening entertainment, or stay in Jackson and have to travel 30 minutes by bus or rental car to the slopes each day?
The 49’er Inn and Suites
In downtown Jackson, within walking distance of restaurants, live entertainment, bars, shopping and galleries. The 49’er Inn and Suites has 140 rooms and suites, indoor and outdoor hot tubs and an indoor swimming pool.
This simple base in Teton Village claims to have the lowest rates at the ski area. One minute from the Bridger Gondola, The Hostel operates like a hotel with private guest rooms, but also offers a few traditional hostel-style four-person bunk rooms. All rooms feature their own private bathroom.
Chic, urban and eco-friendly, this modern hotel in the heart of Teton Village, has 132 bedrooms. There’s a rooftop hot tub and a Chill Spa pool overlooking the mountains at Hotel Terra.
The Wort Hotel
A boutique hotel just off Jackson’s main square, exuding historic charm which is combined with high-end amenities and service. The Wort has 55 guest rooms, including five “Western Theme” suites.
Halfway between the ski area and the town of Jackson. Amangani clings to the crest of East Gros Ventre Butte, some 2,135m above sea level, and has magnificent views of the Snake River Range and Spring Gulch.
Teton Mountain Lodge
A slopeside condo hotel in Teton Village with single, two and three-bedroom units. Teton Mountain Lodge is built in national park lodge style, with log beams and impressive stone fireplaces in the lobby, an après bar, and a re-modelled restaurant providing some of the best cuisine in the resort.
The Four Seasons Resort and Residences
A huge ski-in/ski-out slope-side hotel which completely changed the folksy atmosphere of Teton Village when it appeared like a vast invading space station back in 2004. But the Four Seasons Resort and Residences undeniably offers luxury at a location which could hardly be closer to the slopes.
