Follow Mail Sport’s live blog as Ian Ladyman answers all the big questions regarding Manchester City

Q: How confident should Man City feel about their chances of retaining the Champions League trophy after becoming one of the first teams to qualify from the group stages?

Retaining the Champions League while trying to win a domestic league is incredibly difficult largely because of the demands it places on teams in terms of fixtures and constant football.

This is one of the reasons why the best teams in Europe don’t always win the Champions League.

City, however, are the best team on in Europe by some distance at a time when some of the other great superpowers are rebuilding teams that may come to the boil in a couple of years. If City keep players fit then they have a real chance to win the Champions League once again.

It will be interesting to see what attitude they take into the FA Cup this season as I think playing the final at Wembley against Manchester United last spring definitely impacted on what was a relatively low-key performance against Inter in Istanbul a week later.

I do wonder this time whether Pep Guardiola may take a different approach.

Q: Was Erling Haaland right to hand over his shirt to Young Boys captain Mohamed Ali Camara at half-time?

He’s within his rights to do what he likes. I would be more worried if I was a Young Boys fan.

What message does it send if your captain is basically behaving like a fan boy in front of the opposition’s best player?

It’s so embarrassing as to be borderline pathetic.

Welcome, Ian Ladyman, and first up – Q: How significant will the loss of John Stones and Manuel Akanji be to Pep Guardiola just as Man City finally get a grip on the top of the Premier League table?

Stones is a huge loss. He’s the most improved player at the club over the last 18 months and is more than just a central defender to City.

They have won games without him this season – he was injured at the start too – and can do so again. But with Akanji out, too, City will be stretched across that area.

One more defensive injury away from real trouble, I would say.

Akanji was replaced by Kyle Walker just before the Champions League group stage clash started, with John Stones hauled off at half-time.

Jack Grealish has urged Manchester City to be more ruthless with their chances and admitted he must be more clinical in front of goal himself.

City were utterly dominant, but Grealish felt they were uncharacteristically profligate in front of goal.
