Antoine Semenyo goes close!

What is going on?

Dominic Solanke fought off Fabian Schar to tee up Antoine Semenyo in the box. Lewis Hall really should have got there, but Semenyo powered past him and slid in a shot.

It dribbled wide of the pos, and Nick Pope probably had it covered, but that could have been a goal.

Newcastle look shot of belief. Was Semenyo even second favourite to that ball? He came from out of nowhere.

18:06, 35

Alan Smith: Newcastle ‘looking flat and jaded’

This has been a concerning performance for Newcastle.

Bournemouth are winning the battle of ideas as well as the physical contest.

They’re first to the second balls, bypassing their midfield with ease, running their defenders riot, and keeping Nick Pope busy. Newcastle can’t deal with their vertical passes. Credit to the Cherries.

Alan Smith, co-commentator for Sky Sports, just said they look ‘flat and jaded’.

18:01, 31

SUBSTITUTION: Matt Ritchie on for injured Miguel Almiron

Miguel Almiron’s day is over.

Matt Ritchie is on against his former club to defend a corner.

The injury problems are piling up even more for Eddie Howe.

18:00, 30

Miguel Almiron down

Yet more worries for Newcastle as Miguel Almiron is receiving treatment for a leg issue.

17:59, 27

Justin Kluivert almost a hero!

Wow! Yet more Bournemouth brillaince!

Justin Kluivert left Newcastle’s midfield for dead with an energetic dribble down the middle and fired off a curling right-footed shot, forcing Nick Pope into a dive to his right to save the shot.

That was venemous, but where were Newcastle’s midfielders?

17:58, 28

Jamaal Lascelles offside

Jamaal Lascelles forced a save with a powerful back-post header, and Neto did well to parry the deflected effort, but a dubious offside call says it wouldn’t have counted had it thundered in.

17:57, 27

Kieran Trippier struggling defensively

It hasn’t been a greatgame for Kieran Trippier so far.

He keeps misplacing passes as he looks to get Newcastle on the front foot.

More worryingly, Marcus Tavernier looks dominant in their battle down the right side of Newcastle.

Trippier won a corner with a dribble down the right, with Liam Kelly tackling him, but it’s not been an easy day.

17:53, 23

Dominic Solanke tackled in box

Marcus Tavernier found the feet of Dominic Solanke in the area with a neat ball, but he turned into trouble – the imposing figure of Fabian Schar.

17:51, 21

Bournemouth press working

Kieran Trippier rather uncharacteristically punted the ball down the right flank to absolutely nobody and the Cherries reclaimed possession.

Both sides are showing a passion for pressing but it’s Bournemouth who are getting the better of it so far.

17:49, 19

Antoine Semenyo down

Now a headache for Bournemouth. Antoine Semenyo is receiving treatment on the pitch and seems to be feeling his ankle.

He briefly comes off.

17:48, 18

Lewis Hall tests Neto

A low drive from Lewis Hall from the far left side of the pitch thuds into the arms of a kneeling Neto. Worth a go, but he has to sprint back to get into position as Bournemouth counter.

17:46, 16

Fabian Schar back on

17:45, 15

Fabian Schar hobbles off – but isn’t substituted yet

Newcastle are temporarily left with ten men.

17:44, 14

Fabian Schar down

Is this another injury problem for Newcastle?

Fabian Schar is holding his hamstring and Nick Pope throws the ball out of play. A bit of blood on the knee.

17:42, 11

Dominic Solanke chance – good block from Jamaal Lascelles

Brilliant defending from Newcastle’s captain.

Antoine Semenyo threaded through Dominic Solanke with a lovely pass down the right, the No 9 hared down on goal, but just as he let off his shot, Jamaal Lascelles slid in and blocked it.

Solanke should have got the ball out of his feet quicker, but no taking away from the defensive effort there.

Good game this, so far.

Good strike from Sean Longstaff!

A first chance for Newcastle there!

Sean Longstaff adjusted the ball onto his right foot at the edge of the D and cracked off a flying shot, forcing Neto into a leap and save to stop it dipping under the crossbar.

Corner for Newcastle

Anthony Gordon sped down the left flank with pace and power.

Lewis Cook couldn’t contain him and was pulling his shirt blatantly, but slid in with a tackle and sent it out for a corner.

Newcastle play it short and don’t do much with it, losing possession.

Newcastle settle on the ball

Newcastle are just trying to keep hold of the ball here. Miguel Almiron and Sean Longstaff linked up nicely high on the right but couldn’t find a way into the Bournemouth area. They need to calm the game down after a frenetic and shaky start.

Another Bournemouth shot!

Strong start for the Cherries here!

Antoine Semenyo made a driving run from the right side of the pitch to the edge of the area and unleashed a low shot. Nick Pope did well to get down to it as it had some oomph behind it.

Early Bournemouth chance!

Bournemouth could have scored there!

Justin Kluivert made a nice run down the left and got the ball into the box. It fell to Ryan Christie, who tries to curl it into the top corner, but Nick Pope saves his high shot.

Kick-off!

Newcastle, draped in green, get us underway.

Remembrance ceremony

To mark Remembrance Weekend, Eddie Howe and Andoni Iraola bring out wreaths to lay on the pitch in honour of those who fought and died for the country.

Who Is Lewis Miley?

If you find yourself wondering who on earth Lewis Miley is, and why Eddie Howe would trust him at the heart of his midfield on the Premier League stage, we have the answers.

  • He outshone Enzo Fernandez, Sandro Tonali and Joelinton when playing on their pre-season tour.
  • He has also been compared to Michael Carrick and Jude Bellingham by fans on social media.

Eddie Howe: Lewis Miley plays beyond his years

Lewis Miley has played for Newcastle before, but this is his full Premier League debut. Eddie Howe backs the 17-year-old and thinks he is more than ready.

He told Sky Sports: ‘He’s a top quality player. Yes he’s young, but we really do believe in him and had a very good pre-season and plays beyond his years.

On Callum Wilson’s absence, he said: ‘Hopefully as a team we step up with the ball. We’ve lost top quality players but we believe in the attacking players we’ve got on the pitch.’

Andoni Iraola: There should be more chances for both sides today

Andoni Iraola told Sky Sports he expects a more even game today than the 6-1 loss to Manchester City.

He said: ‘It should be different [to Man City]. They will put us under pressure but the rhythm will be different with more chances for both sides.’

On Philip Billing’s absence, he said:’We were lacking some important players in the middle and it’s always bad news when we lose someone like Philip, but I trust the players I put in the middle.

‘We’ve started with quite an offensive starting 11.’

Head-to head: How did they get on last season?

Bournemouth and Newcastle met three times last season, with two draws and one win for the Magpies.

  • In September 2022, Newcastle welcomed the Cherries to St James’ Park where an Alexander Isak penalty cancelled out Philip Billing’s second-half goal. Newcastle 1-1 Bournemouth
  • In December, an EFL Cup last 16 tie beckoned in the North East and an Adam Smith own goal saw Bournemouth crash out – oddly enough in the same minute they conceded in the first game, the 67th. Newcastle 1-0 Bournemouth
  • In February, Marcos Senesi put Bournemouth up at home but Miguel Almiron found a reply. Bournemouth 1-1 Newcastle

Thirty minutes until kick-off

Kick-off for this one is at 5.30 so we haven’t got long to go now.

Eddie Howe: I would be open to signing Ruben Neves

Eddie Howe would like to sign a player of the ilk of Ruben Neves, but can’t. Why?

  • A vote will take place on November 21 between Premier League clubs to introduce a temporary ban on incoming loans between clubs who share owners.
  • The Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund have an 80 per cent stake in Newcastle.
  • Neves just so happens to play for Saudi side Al-Hilal, who the PIF have a 75% stake in.

Howe was careful with his words when asked to comment on the issue, but asked if Newcastle would fight the changes, he said: ‘You can make that assumption.’

Bournemouth release their line-up – five changes

Five changes for the Cherries after their 6-1 defeat to Manchester City.

Neto is back between the sticks, wth Lewis Cook, Marcos Senesi, Antoine Semenyo, and Justin Kluivert coming in as well.

Ionut Radu, Chris Mepham, Milos Kerkez, Alex Scott, and Philip Billing make way.

Newcastle release their line-up – three changes

Three changes for Newcastle from their defeat at Borussia Dortmund as Anthony Gordon, Miguel Almiron, and Lewis Miley come into the starting line-up.

It’s a first Premier League start for 17-year-old Miley.

Tino Livramento, Bruno Guimaraes, and Callum Wilson make way.

Happy birthday to Jamaal Lascelles

He’ll be hoping for a few hip-hip-hoorays today.

Jamaal Lascelles turns 30 today but he isn’t one to let the jubilations distract him.

With the rumble of Saudi investment depositing big-money names around him, Newcastle’s captain has kept his head down and kept his place in the team with the consistency they need.

A rock at the back for Eddie Howe.

Bournemouth: Moving on from a crushing blow

There are few places in football where you’re more likely to get trounced than Manchester City’s Etihad, and Bournemouth were the unfortunate victims to Pep Guardiola’s lair last weekend.

The final scoreline was 6-1, a damning verdict against the free-flowing but leaky football of Andoni Iraola’s side at the moment.

A haul of 27 goals conceded in 11 games is not good enough the Cherries know they need to shore things up fast.

A first win of the league season against Burnley a couple of weeks ago at the Vitality Stadium will give them a boost. They must draw on that energy.

Newcastle: Looking to bounce back from midweek

Eddie Howe’s men come into this clash on the back of a disheartening midweek.

A Tuesday night trip to Borussia Dortmund sent them on the plane home rocked with nightmares after they fell to a 2-0 defeat.

It was a sobering result which dropped the Magpies to the bottom of their Champions League group.

The Premier League seems the perfect environment for them to make amends, though. Newcastle are unbeaten in seven in the league and will fancy their chances against a wobbling Bournemouth side.
