In the midst of the maelstrom of games at the start of the NBA season, one of the names that stood out above the rest was Zion Williamson. The Pelicans star returned to play in an official game, something he had not done since February 1.

Zion lead in the deserved victory of New Orleans in Memphis (111-104), he showed why he is one of the most dominant players in the league. He looked healthy, out of discomfort and fresher than ever. He was reminiscent at times of his first year in the NBA and the player who wowed at Duke.

He finished with 23 points, 7 rebounds and an accurate 9/17 from the field. With him, the Pelicans are different. A team that last season was at the top of the West in the first months and that, after the loss of Williamson (to which Ingram‘s loss was added) fell sharply.

A perfect blend

The Louisiana team depends in large part on Zion‘s health. With him, they are a playoff franchise. Without him, they are destined for the bottom of their conference. Despite that, Willie Green‘s mix of youth and veterans in his locker room creates one of the most complete squads in the league.

McCollum, Ingram and Valanciunas as the main mentors for the upcoming crop with Herb Jones, Trey Murphy and Dyson Daniels, among others, leading the way.

With Zion fully recovered and at an All-Star level, the Pelicans believe again and the project returns to the form it has always had.
