Sharon Stone has opened up about her lack of big acting roles following her award-winning appearance in the 1995 Martin Scorsese film, Casino.

The actress, 66, who played Ginger McKenna opposite Robert De Niro‘s Sam ‘Ace’ Rothstein, said she was ‘shocked’ she didn’t ‘continue to work well’ after.

During an interview with The Guardian, Sharon spoke highly of her ‘amazing’ experience working with Robert on the crime thriller.

Sharon admitted it was her ‘dream’ to work alongside Robert and revealed he was encouraging and helpful during her time on set.

However Sharon claimed she hasn’t worked on any ‘substantial’ films since then, saying: ‘I was shocked that I didn’t get to continue to work well, I did everything to be my very best.’

Sharon has now swapped film sets for art studios and told the publication that she can spend up to 17 hours a day behind her easel, working on paintings.

The screen star’s painting venture has been a success and he is currently has an exhibition in Berlin and is selling her paintings for up to $40,000 [31,520.40].

However that’s not to say that she wouldn’t dip her toe back into the acting pond if the right role came knocking.

When asked if she was done with acting for good, Sharon said: ‘I’m not saying that. Working as an actress, I absolutely loved it. if someone offers me a substantial role I’ll take it. But that’s not happening.’

‘What happens in the business is that once you become a huge seller, they want to put you in small projects, so that you start financing people who want to start their careers. Terrific, but that’s not really where I’m at. I want to work with the masters because I have earned my place there.’

Sharon’s career has been hit with several setbacks, including a stroke which she suffered as the result of a brain haemorrhage in 2001.

She has also spoken out about her struggles with misogyny in the industry, most recently revealing she was pressured to have sex with her Silver co-lead William Baldwin by Hollywood producer Robert Evans.

The performers co-starred in the erotic thriller feature Silver, which was originally released in 1993.

Sharon spoke about the troubled production of the film in her 2021 memoir The Beauty of Living Twice, in which she alleged that a producer told her to sleep with a co-star.

She went on to appear on an episode of The Louis Theroux Podcast which was released earlier this month, during which she claimed that Paramount’s former head Evans encouraged her to have sex with William.

Silver’s screenwriter, Joe Eszterhas, alleged that the dynamic between William and his co-star was rocky in his book, American Rhapsody, which was released in 2000.

The writer claimed via the New York Post that Sharon described the actor as ‘a boy’ and she stated that she would let his brother Alec ‘throw me over a table anytime.’

Eszterhas went on to allege that the Academy Award-nominated actress was openly hostile to her co-star while they worked on the film.

He claimed: ‘She’d wipe her mouth after kissing him or rinse it with mouthwash. She bit his tongue during a kiss.’

Sharon denied the claims during a 2021 interview with The New Yorker, where she described her castmate as ‘so sweet and young and naive’ at the time of Silver’s production.

William went on to address the resurfaced controversy in a lengthy post that was shared on his X account last week, during which he accused the actress of harboring a personal grudge for over three decades.

He wrote: ‘Does she still have a crush on me or is she still hurt after all these years because I shunned her advances? Did she say to her gal pal Janice Dickinson the day after I screen tested…”I’m gonna make him fall so hard for me, it’s gonna make his head spin.” ???’

The performer went on to write that he had remained silent about what he expressed were particularly lurid stories about Stone’s past behavior.

‘Wonder if I should write a book and tell the many, many disturbing, kinky and unprofessional tales about Sharon? That might be fun.’
