Our Yorkshire Farm star Reuben Owen suffered a major setback minutes into his new Channel 5 show. The teen returned to our TV screens tonight with his own show away from his family titled Reuben Owen: Life In The Dales.

The six-part series follows Reuben, girlfriend Sarah Dow and best friend Tommy McWhirter as they attempt to grow his heavy machinery business.

During the first episode, viewers were introduced to the team as they tackled Reuben’s second year of trading. They got stuck into work as they got a new contract to restore life to an old fishing pond at a grand country estate in County Durham.

The teens had to dig up 6,000 tonnes of silt and at half an acre, it is the biggest dig they have ever tried. But things took a turn just minutes in as the heavy summer rain turned the site into a slurry pit, with Reuben fighting to stop his 14-tonne digger being swallowed.

Reuben and his friends were still keen to get the job done as they powered through but despite their determination, Reuben’s worst fear for the project had come true.

The rain has turned the silt into slurry and he is struggling to keep his digger from sinking into the mud. On a brighter note, friend Tom was impressed with how well Sarah was handling the tractor as it has only been a year since she started learning to operate the machine.

Using his walkie talkie he said: “You’ve properly got the hang of the tractor Sarah you are flying.” Despite the weather and thanks to Sarah’s driving, the team managed to sort out the worst part of the pond but they decided to head back to the car.

Reuben went on to say: “Aw well we are going to have to leave it for another day.” Tom jumped in: “Yeah lets call it a day.” Reuben added: “We were making more mess than progress so let’s have our dinner and go home.”

The weather had cost them half a day’s work but they were still eager to get back once the weather had gotten better.

Elsewhere in the show, Reuben was on a mission to challenge himself so with Sara and Tom they left the Yorkshire Dales and went on a road trip to the PlantWorx Expo in Peterborough where Reuben is taking part in a digger competition against some of the best operators. Even though Reuban lost out on the win he was grateful to have Sarah and Tom cheering him on the whole way.
