There was drama in the NHL recently when Corey Perry was waived by the Chicago Blackhawks and it is now believed that there was an incident with an employee of the club.

The waiving of Perry came shortly before a clash with the Columbus Blue Jackets and ‘unacceptable behavior’ was the given reason.

Perry apparently travelled to Columbus one week ago, a day before the Blackhawks were set to play the Blue Jackets, and then an incident occurred with a team employee. This is according to ESPN.

There seems to be very limited detail on the incident itself and where it took place, but it is the first real insight into why Perry is no longer on the team.

Many rumors were quickly spread on social media which were shut down by the Blackhawks and NHL reporters.

Kyle Davidson shares his thoughts

Blackhawks general manager Kyle Davidson has been asked about the situation and he opted not to disclose and details of the internal investigation but he did tell reports during a press conference on Tuesday: “[Perry was] immediately pulled from the game” last Wednesday after management had become aware of the situation, which the GM called a “workplace matter.”

“I think over the last 24 hours, what’s gone on has been very disturbing,” Davidson said. “And I feel like I’m wearing it. I’m carrying that. It’s just tough to see.”

Blackhawks forward Nick Foligno explained how the team was stunned by the news: “Kyle just told us that they’d be terminating his contract and there’s a standard in this room, and we all adhere to it.

“And they believe strongly in making sure that’s understood by all of us. It’s a hard day and nobody wants to hear that news. We all care about Corey, but we understand that there’s a standard we’re going to be held to and we all have to understand that and push forward.”
