The atmosphere around Adelaide is still buzzing despite the Crows’ loss to Melbourne last night.

However, plenty is riding on Port Adelaide to beat Essendon and give the town something to gloat about during the weekend.

The Power’s favourite “Never Tear Us Apart” from INXS is ringing out around the stadium as the teams prepare for the bounce.

Lachie Neale admits he had a slow week after a “nasty” ankle injury last game and he tried to stay in the game before being subbed out in the last term.

“I had a bit of a nasty sprain last week and it was a slow burn this week to get to the line,” Neale said.

“I said it was “up to you” [to Fagan] and I missed a lot of preseason due to surgery so I asked if I needed the match fitness, he said no and I was a bit flat.”

The Lions have run up the score but slowed after half-time as Lachie Neale and Joe Daniher have led their side to a win over North Melbourne at Norwood Oval.

Daniher kicked five goals and Eric Hipwood kicked three in a return to form while Neale was dominant before being subbed out late as a precaution following his ankle issue last week.

North Melbourne have given former Geelong big man Charlie Comden a run in defence today and, despite the sizeable loss, coaching great Mick Malthouse has told ABC Sport he likes the look of Comden in defence.

Most Fridays we only have one game to blog but tonight we have two so please stay with us after this Lions v Roos game finishes as we will continue on and live blog Port Adelaide v Essendon at Adelaide Oval.

Neither side has made a late change, at least yet, and the subs have been named with Jase Burgoyne (Power) and Nick Hind (Dons) filling those roles.

First bounce at Adelaide Oval is set for 8.10pm AEDT.

The Lions have rested Lachie Neale for the last bit of this match with the Brownlow Medal winning midfielder appearing to argue his case with Chris Fagan to stay on the ground.

Neale had 27 disposals, 14 of them contested and will surely figure in the Brownlow votes for this match.

The battle with Fagan was about the only contest he didn’t win today. Neale has been subbed out to protect his troublesome ankle and he is already being strapped with ice.

Cameron is such a talent in front of goal.

He chased the ball down going away from goal and snapped it over his shoulder for a goal.

That goal got a great cheer, so did the little kid who kicked the ball back onto the field – the local fans were impressed with the power shown from someone so small.

Lions 98, Roos 35 with 12 mins to go.

Daniher and Cameron have both missed shots for goal early in the last term as the Lions miss opportunities to extend their lead.

The Roos are fighting on but rarely getting it out of defence.
