West Ham United have reached an agreement with Manchester United to sign English defender Harry Maguire for 30 million pounds.
As reported by BBC Sport, the Hammers had previously had a 20 million pound bid for Maguire rejected by Erik ten Hag‘s side, but their revised offer has seen Man United say yes.
Maguire has seemed destined to leave Man United this summer given he struggled to get many minutes in the first team during the 2022/23 season under Ten Hag and he was recently stripped of the captaincy.
At 30 years old, he has still got plenty to offer in the Premier League and West Ham coach David Moyes is thought to be a big fan of the former Leicester City and Hull City defender.
Man Utd set for a loss on Maguire
Whilst Man United will be happy to be getting a fairly handsome fee for Maguire, given how low his stock has fallen in the last couple of seasons, they are going to be making a 50 million pound loss.
Maguire signed from Leicester in 2019 for a massive 80 million pound fee, which was heavily inflated by United‘s clear need to sign a defender and Leicester‘s lack of a clear need to sell Maguire.
Whilst Maguire only started eight games for Man United last season, he has had some good spells in the defence for the current Carabao Cup champions.
Unfortunately for him, they have been few and far between and the arrivals of Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez meant that he was never going to enjoy regular minutes under Ten Hag.
West Ham have also agreed a deal with Southampton to sign James Ward-Prowse, another roughly 30 million pound deal.
