Full Story

Kieran Culkin has recently opened up to Esquire about growing up in New York City with his six siblings, including his famous brother Macaulay Culkin. Kieran, who stars in “Succession” as Roman Roy, is the second youngest of the Culkin siblings, and only he, Macaulay, and Rory pursued acting seriously. Their father, Kit Culkin, who is also an actor, had all seven children try acting. The family resided in Yorkville, a district of Manhattan, where Kieran witnessed how fame affected Macaulay at a very young age.

Kieran admitted that while he wanted to become an actor, he did not want to be famous because of the negative experiences the family had encountered due to his parents’ split and ensuing custody battle. Esquire reported that Kieran wrote a letter to the judge when he was 13, requesting that the press be barred from the courtroom to spare the family more pain, but the judge ignored his request. Kieran says that he had an unhealthy relationship with acting at a young age because of what it cost his family.

Despite their early challenges, the Culkin siblings have grown up to support each other, with Macaulay being in a relationship with actor Brenda Song and having two children. Kieran is married to Jazz Charton and shares two children with her, and Rory married cinematographer Sarah Scrivener in 2018. Cody, who was another one of the Culkin siblings, tragically passed away in 2008 at the age of 29 in a car accident.

Kieran, Macaulay, and Rory have all had successful careers in acting. Kieran had his breakout role in “Igby Goes Down” in 2002 and found more success in “Succession,” while Macaulay rose to fame in the “Home Alone” franchise and most recently appeared in “American Horror Story: Double Feature” and two episodes of “The Righteous Gemstones.” Rory had his breakthrough in “You Can Count on Me” in 2000 and has worked on various television shows, including Netflix’s “Halston” in 2021 and FX’s “Under the Banner of Heaven” and “Swarm” in 2022 and 2023, respectively.

In conclusion, Kieran Culkin’s interview with Esquire sheds light on the Culkin family’s turbulent past and how it has affected each member differently. Despite their early struggles, the siblings have gone on to have successful careers and remain close today.
