Jacksonville Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence left the field late in the 4th quarter with an apparent serious injury. The quarterback slammed the ground and his helmet in frustration after getting his ankle stepped on by offensive lineman Walker Little during the Monday Night Football clash against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Lawrence was helped off the field by two trainers in what was his 46th consecutive start for the team. He immediately headed to the X-Ray room at the stadium with the Jags designating him ‘questionable to return’. The entire EverBank Stadium went silent after seeing their franchise quarterback leaving the field in agony.

Trevor Lawrence: concern for ankle fracture

According to medical experts online, Lawrence’s unfortunate injury is likely to his right ankle (but right knee could be affected as well).

When his lineman stepped on his ankle, his knee was twisted in an uncomfortable position as he fell to the turf. The possible concern is a right ankle fracture, but at the minimum it looks like the Jags QB could be dealing with a severe sprain.

CJ Beathard, 3rd round pick from 2017, is set to lead the Jacksonville Jaguars during Lawrence’s absence.

Coincidentally, LT Walker Little, the lineman who accidentally stepped on Lawrence sustained a hamstring injury shortly after the incident occurred and was also designated ‘questionable to return’.

The Jaguars give initial diagnosis on Trevor Lawrence

The initial diagnosis for Trevor Lawrence is an “akle sprain”, according to NFL insider Tom Pelissero. The update bodes well for Lawrence’s hopes to return to the field this season, as it likely means that no fracture was detected by the stadium’s x-ray machine.

The quarterback will have an MRI on Tuesday to detect the full extent of the injury.

After the game, Jacksonville coach Doug Pederson didn’t unveil many details concerning Lawrence: “I don’t have any information yet on Trevor, we’re still having more tests done. We had position players. It’s part of the game, it happens. It’s unfortunate. Next guy up has to be ready to go and play. I don’t know how concerned I am until I talk to the doctors”.

In regards to Beathard, Pederson added the team has “full confidence” in their backup QB going forward.
