A tragic event struck the clash between the Sacramento Kings and New Orleans Pelicans at the Golden 1 Center in the Californian city corresponding to the first game of the Western quarterfinals of the NBA In-Season Tournament. A spectator, a Kings fan, died during the game after suffering a medical emergency during the first quarter. The game remained unchanged and ended normally.

“During the first quarter of the Kings vs. Pelicans game, a guest had a medical emergency,” the Kings statement began. “EMS immediately responded and administered CPR. Tragically, these efforts were unsuccessful and the guest passed away. The organization offers its deepest condolences to the guest’s family and loved ones.”

“We weren’t aware of that at all,” Keegan Murray said. “As a team, we give our condolences to the passing. Hopefully the family is being taken care of.”

He confirmed that nothing was communicated to them during the course of the match, which went on as normal despite what happened in the stands.

According to the city’s police force, he was a fan in his 30s who was unresponsive at the time of rapid medical intervention. His death was confirmed about 20 minutes later.
