Angel Reese has encountered significant adversity in her early WNBA career. Reese, now with the Chicago Sky, has faced tough fouls from veteran players, making her transition to the league challenging. Additionally, her team has had a rough start, winning only three out of their first eight games this season.

In the game against the NY Liberty, Reese’s frustrations came to a head. Late in the game, after being called for her fifth personal foul, Reese voiced her displeasure to the referee, earning her a technical foul.

As she walked away, she waved off the official, resulting in a second technical and an automatic ejection. This incident drew the attention of Chicago Bulls star Lonzo Ball, who was in attendance. Ball publicly criticized the referee’s decision, calling it weak, and generously offered to cover any fines Reese might face.

“Ref that threw out @Reese10Angel is weak btw… You know who you are (Keep ya money Angel I got you),” he wrote on X.

Another fine for Reese

Reese expressed her gratitude to Ball, replying, “Appreciate you gang!” This wasn’t Reese’s first encounter with fines, as she had previously been penalized $1000 for not speaking to the media after a loss to the Indiana Fever, an action that also cost her team $5000.

Despite the ejection, Reese managed to score a 13-point double-double before leaving the game. Lead official Maj Forsberg later explained that Reese’s first technical foul was for “disrespectfully addressing” the official, and the second was for her dismissive gesture.

Without any prior warnings, the back-to-back incidents led to Reese’s ejection and a $400 fine.
