Birmingham City have appointed Tottenham assistant boss Chris Davies as their new manager on a four-year deal.

Davies, 39, who was a coach at Swansea City, Liverpool, Celtic and Leicester City under Brendan Rodgers, succeeds Tony Mowbray who stepped down due to ill health last season.

The newly relegated League One club agreed a compensation package with Spurs as Davies still had two years left on contract.

Birmingham owner and chairman Tom Wagner, who was part of the recruitment panel along with co-owner Tom Brady and chief executive Garry Cook, said: ‘He is widely respected in the game and fulfils our goal to appoint an ambitious, progressive coach. ‘

Postecolgou’s right hand man has been in demand this season, with many clubs trying to poach the English coach from the North London side.

Davies turned down the opportunity to become the boss of Swansea City midway through their 2023-24 campaign.

The League One side co-owned by NFL legend superstar Tom Brady has been victim of the manager merry-go-round, with the club registering three managers during their season which ended in relegation.

The Birmingham based side started out the season with John Eustace before he was axed to make way for the arrival of Wayne Rooney.

Rooney’s stint with the Blues ended in disaster, managing to get the axe after only 83 days in charge.

Managerial veteran Mowbray then stepped in to try and rescue the season for Birmingham but soon had to step down from his role due to illness.

Gary Rowett then stepped in for the remainder of the season as interim manager for the club.

Since Davies has been appointed the new head coach of Birmingham City, Tottenham and Postecolgou will need to make a decision on whether to hire a new head coach or promote one of their other coaches to the role.

Both Matt Wells and Ryan Mason could be potential successors to Davies.

Birmingham will play League One football next season and will be hoping Davies can be the man who will take the Blues back to England’s second-tier in just one season.
