Russia carried out another widespread attack against Ukraine’s energy sector on Wednesday, striking facilities in six regions but failed to hit Kyiv’s systems.

Generation and transmission facilities were damaged early on Wednesday in Poltava, Kirovohrad, Zaporizhzhia, Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk and Vinnytsia regions, according to Ukraine’s energy ministry.

The ministry did not specify what was hit but the strike adds to the recent series of devastating attacks that have levelled several thermal power plants, including the major plant supplying much of the capital and central Ukraine.

The periodic barrages, which began in March, have left Kyiv heavily reliant on electricity imports from the EU. The missiles targeting Kyiv were intercepted by Ukraine’s air defence, authorities. said.
