A Bradford drug dealer who was involved in supplying heroin and crack cocaine in a county lines operation has had his existing jail sentence increased to 10 years.

Asim Hussain, 23, is currently serving an eight-year term and on Wednesday, refused to get on the prison transport to take him to Bradford Crown Court for his second sentencing hearing.

Hussain, of Waterlily Road, Bradford, was given the eight-year term back in March 2022 after Burnley Crown Court heard how his crime group, branding itself Striker, flooded South Cumbria with Class A drugs and used children as young as 14 to traffic drugs to Barrow-in-Furness.

Judge Jonathan Gibson sentenced Hussain in his absence on Wednesday and jailed him for an additional two years in prison after hearing details of the police discovery of a “stash car” in Bradford in June 2021.

Prosecutor Michael Greenhalgh told the court that officers in a marked police vehicle stopped a Seat Leon which was being driven near the home of Hussain and his younger brother Adil.

The driver of the car was Asad Ahmed and his passenger, Tayyab Arshad, ran off when the police moved in.

When the car was searched officers found heroin, crack cocaine and cannabis worth a total of £32,000 as well as items associated with the preparation and bagging up of drugs such as blenders, scales and plastic food bags. Mr Greenhalgh said the vehicle also contained baseball bats and two realistic looking BB guns.

When CCTV footage of the area was viewed it became clear that the vehicle was being used as a “stash car” in order to re-stock street dealers.

The court heard that so-called “burner phones” were also seized and messages including adverts for drugs were found on them. The phone evidence suggested that a drugs line was being run in the Barnsley area and others in Bradford.

All four defendants pleaded guilty in February to charges of conspiracy to supply heroin and crack cocaine and yesterday Judge Gibson increased Asim Hussain’s jail sentence to take account of his further involvement in drug dealing.

His younger brother Adil, now 21, also of Waterlily Road, Bradford, was sentenced to two years in prison, suspended for two years, and he will have to do 200 hours unpaid work for the community.

Asad Ahmed, 24, of Lynton Drive, Bradford, and Tayyab Arshad, 23, of Hartman Place, Bradford, also received two year jail terms suspended for two years.

Ahmed will have to do 150 hours unpaid work and Arshad must do 160 hours.

Judge Gibson told all three that he had taken account of the delay in their cases coming before the courts, but he reserved any breaches of the orders to himself and warned the trio that they would go to prison if they did not comply with the terms or committed any further offences.
