A 17-year-old boy from Coomera has been charged with three counts of using a carriage service to menace, harass or cause offence.

The charges relate to online posts that ranked female students into offensive categories including: “abduction material”, “one night stand”, “average”, “preorder” and “unrapeable”.

The Gold Coast District Child Protection and Investigation Unit had been examining the rankings since they were reported to police on May 29.

“Police urge the community to remain vigilant and report any instances of cyberbullying or online harassment,” said Senior Sergeant Greg Aubort.

“Such behaviour not only affects the well-being of individuals but also carries significant legal ramifications.”

Tevita Pangai Junior’s NRL comeback is complete, with the Dolphins’ newest signing named on the bench to take on the Melbourne Storm on Friday night.

The 28-year-old, who turned his back on rugby league last year to pursue a career in boxing, has returned to play under Wayne Bennett before the coach moves to the South Sydney Rabbitohs next year.

Pangai Junior has been signed only for the remainder of the 2024 season, and said he would not be looking too far ahead when it came to his future.

“Like the great Billy Slater said, I’m just worried about where my feet are at the moment,” he said.

“I’m just worried about today – when I look too far ahead that when I’ll run into a lot of drama. I’m just worried about the Storm this week and we’ll see how we go after that.

“But obviously I play my best footy under Wayne, so we’ll see what happens.”

The Liberal National Party has promised to go one stop further than Labor and extend rail services to Maroochydore if it wins the October election.

The Miles government is currently planning, and has funding to support, a rail line to Caloundra, but has yet to commit to make it to Maroochydore as originally envisaged.

“Under Labor’s plans, Caloundra will be the end of the line and become the carpark of the Sunshine Coast,” said the opposition’s Jarrod Bleijie.

“Only the LNP will link Beerwah to Caloundra to Kawana to Maroochydore and deliver the infrastructure needed for Queensland’s future.

“We will not stand by and watch Caloundra become a carpark while the rest of the Sunshine Coast gets short-changed.”

It remains to be seen how a LNP government would convince a Labor federal government to commit more funds to the project.
