Britain’s Got Talent fans have said a Canadian comedian’s impression of the Yorkshire dialect sounded “nothing like” accents you hear in God’s Own County.

Comedian Kevin Finn appeared on the show to perform a stand-up routine in which he addressed some of his experiences since moving to the UK. Appearing before judges Bruno Tonioli, Alesha Dixon, Amanda Holden and Simon Cowell, he had much of the audience in stitches, passing to the next round unanimously.

As part of his routine, he discussed the different accents in the UK, including his nana from Huddersfield and his experiences running to the big Tesco in Barnsley after getting lost, only to be left unable to understand people due to their Barnsley accents.

Many fans across social media were left laughing by the routine. @Annie_B86 said: “Oh I loved #KevinFinn! That was so funny, and his accents just made it great!”

@Imtherealanon added: “Someone from Canada on #BGT. Do these really good acts get invited to appear on the show? And are they already doing what they do as a professional?” @x3ChelseaLouise wrote: “As a Barnsley gal, it is true, we do always take refuge in big Tesco”.

Another fan, @edgedancefit, added: “Kevin mentioned Barnsley… nowt not funny about that Nice take on the UK accents.”

Not everyone was as impressed, with @suzeloves saying: “I just have to say as I’m from Huddersfield that accent was nothing like our accent and the Barnsley one was even worse.”

@JonSWFC said: “Hugely offensive ‘comedian’ on #BGT . Judges seem to think a c*** Yorkshire accent is funny. Just cos he’s Canadian.”
