Caitlin Clark has received an apology from Pat McAfee after his controversial comments about the Indiana Fever star went viral for the wrong reasons on Monday.

Clark has endured a difficult time after stepping into the world of professional women’s basketball, with jabs from her fellow players and pundits putting an overwhelming amount of pressure on her young shoulders.

Angel Reese defends Chennedy Carter after controversial foul on Caitlin Clark

In particular, her feud with Angel Reese – stemming from the Chicago Sky rookie’s cryptic remarks about race – has only stoked the fire.

But like several media persoanlities when discussing Clark, McAfee went over the line and he accepted that he did so after issuing a public apology to the 22-year-old for calling her a “white b****” on his self-titled show on ESPN.

McAfee, who made the remark during a discussion about the WNBA, opened Tuesday’s show by addressing the matter and admitted he “shouldn’t have used the term white b****”, adding that Clark had accepted his apology.

“Obviously that’s a massive f***-up on my end. I apologize for that. I did reach out to Caitlin Clark through the Fever [public relations team], sent an apology and then got a message back that she said it was all good. No blood. We move forward,” McAfee said.

“And she appreciates us reaching out and apologizing. So that obviously makes me feel a little bit better. But to the people that got p****d off yesterday and offended, I understand. I learned a lot.”

Why did Pat McAfee target Caitlin Clark?

McAfee spent time on Monday’s show talking about Clark‘s game against the Chicago Sky over the weekend when Chennedy Carter caught the star rookie with a bodycheck. The WNBA upgraded the foul to a Flagrant 1 on Sunday, which is deemed ‘unnecessary contact’ in the WNBA rules.

The ex-NFL punter, 37, unleashed a rant about the WNBA rookies that have been praised with raising the profile of the sport, appeared to suggest it was merely Clark‘s single-handed efforts with the Hawkeyes that turned her into a superstar.

“I would like the media people that continue to say, ‘This rookie class, this rookie class, this rookie class.’ Nah, just call it for what it is,” McAfee said. “There’s one white b**** for the Indiana team [Clark] who is a superstar, and is it because she stayed in Iowa and put an entire state on her back and took a program from nothing to a multiple-year success story?”
