Chicago Sky guard Chennedy Carter seems to be embracing the extra attention since her late foul on Caitlin Clark turned her into a national topic of conversation. In her first game since the controversial incident, Carter knew exactly where the cameras were and made sure they caught her cocky reaction to an and-one basket.

Even after the shot, the Sky were losing by 15 the New York Liberty, but that didn’t stop Carter from celebrating with a Steph Curry style shimmy and a piercing stare into the camera.

Carter’s team-high 16 points off the bench helped Chicago rally to make it a one-point game at halftime, but then things unraveled again in the second half. Angel Reese was controversially ejected for a double technical foul and the Liberty went on to win 88-75.

Backlash from Carter-Clark foul

The 25-year-old’s fame, or perhaps infamy, has grown exponentially since her away-from-the-ball foul on Caitlin Clark set the WNBA on fire. It turned into a toxic national media narrative about coverage of the W, protections to Clark, how much physicality is allowed and of course, the racial discourse that has followed Clark and Reese everywhere.

As many newcomers to the W learned Chennedy’s name because of her cheap shot on the league’s rookie star, she immediately became a target of vicious threats, not only from trolls online, but even respected establishments like the Chicago Tribune editorial board. Carter stated she has “no regrets” and proceeded to troll Clark on social media in the following days.

With the backing of her teammate Reese, Carter is embracing the villain role. If she didn’t know where the cameras were before, she certainly knows where they are now.
