San Jose Earthquakes have tied down forward Cristian Espinoza to a new long-term contract after his stellar performances in 2023.

Espinoza, who’s been with San Jose since 2019, has scored 26 goals and 51 assists in 142 appearances in MLS. The new deal sees him at the club though the 2025 season with an option for 2026, remaining as a Designated Player.

“Cristian has been very productive every season with us and is regarded as one of the top players in the league, as evidenced by him earning a spot on the All-Star team this year,” San Jose general manager Chris Leitch said.

San Jose have enjoyed a solid 2023 season behind the strong performances from Espinoza, sitting in sixth place in the Western Conference with 32 points thanks to the 28-year-old’s 11 goals and seven assists this term.

“He has an elite ability to create chances for his teammates and his goal production has increased every season. Cristian is also an incredible leader for this team both on the field and in our community. We are excited to have Cristian continue his career in San Jose.”

Espinoza made history earlier this season against Seattle Sounders when he assisted Miguel Trauco’s unbelievable volleyed goal to claim his stake at the top of the San Jose’s all-time assists with 51.

“I really love the Earthquakes. This is where I find happiness on the field and I’m really excited to help the club make the next steps forward,” Espinoza said. “My family is really comfortable here, my kids were born here, I really feel like San Jose is a part of me and I’m really happy here. I feel at home.”
