This is the moment when Daniel Gee was apprehended at what is believed to be a pub in Wigan.

Merseyside Police confirmed that the 44-year-old was arrested on Tuesday, June 25, in Wigan by their officers. The former Everton gangster, who transformed his own estate into a round-the-clock drug dealing hub, had escaped from Kirklevington Grange prison in North Yorkshire on May 27.

He is currently being held in police custody and will be returned to prison. A video, widely circulated on social media, showed Gee being arrested at what appears to be the Kirkless Hall Inn in Aspull.

In the video, Gee, wearing a blue vest, can be seen handcuffed and being escorted away by masked police officers. He was then placed into a police car.

Gee was initially imprisoned on an indeterminate sentence for public protection in 2010 following his conviction for gun offences after he planned to arm himself to retaliate against a teenager, reports the Liverpool Echo.

The courts heard that he had planned to arm himself after issuing death threats to 16 year old gunman Jamie Starkey. Gee was seriously wounded after being shot by Starkey, which occurred outside an Anfield pub in the early hours, with one of the bullets penetrating his stomach and lung before exiting his back.

In a trial in October 2009, Gee was found guilty of two counts of threats to kill and another two of blackmail.

The jury failed to reach a verdict on the far graver charges of conspiracy to murder and conspiracy to possess firearms and ammunition. As his second trial was set to begin, Gee, previously of Maryport Close, Everton, conceded to the latter charge.

Prosecutor Ian Unsworth KC stated that Gee’s thirst for vengeance “knew no bounds”.

The then Recorder of Liverpool, Judge Henry Globe KC, declared: “I am in no doubt that the public must be protected from you in the future. I really do not know when it will be safe to release you.”
