During Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez’s most recent fight against Jaime Munguia, David Benavidez was standing ringside looking straight at the Mexican champion. Alvarez noticed that and invited him over to the ring, with the intention to have a face-off. But Benavidez refused to jump in, he had been hearing Alvarez asking for at least $200 million in order to fight Benavidez. Apparently, Alvarez’s critics are still unconvinced that he is good-enough to fight David. There is always someone doubting Canelo and he is always shutting people up with his performances. Only during his fight against Dmitry Bivol did he seem like he wasn’t himself.

But for David Benavidez, Canelo Alvarez has been ducking him for a while and now he has the latest reason he thinks the Mexican champ is avoiding him. This is what Benavidez said in an interview: “This guy’s charging so much for his PPVs, it’s like he’s spitting in you guys’ faces. He’s saying he doesn’t give a f*** what you guys want, he’s not gonna give you the best fights. If you hold all the titles, you’ve gotta fight the best in the division. I’m #1 and #2 is David Morrell. He’s not fighting me and he’s not fighting Morrell. How long is he gonna call himself champion if he doesn’t fight #1 or #2? He’s disrespecting you guys. If you guys are cool with that then there’s nothing I can say about it.”
The reality of David Benavidez
Nothing against David Benavidez but pay-per-view-wise, he is nowhere near what Canelo generates when he fights anywhere in the world. We are talking about a boxer who generates 1 million plus sales against a boxer who rarely goes over 100,000. It simply different leagues. Everybody knows that boxers like Benavidez get that massive boost once they fight a titan like Canelo. Currently, the fight doesn’t make any sense from a financial standpoint but Benavidez might get what he wants if he asks nicely. Because right now, he doesn’t have any control of this situation.
