The rivalry between Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez and David Benavidez continues to give topics of conversation, and now Bandera Roja believes that he made fun of him, once the fight against Jaime Munguia ended.

After defeating Munguia, Canelo again dodged the possibility of facing Benavidez, who was present at the May 4 show at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Boxing Champion Canelo Reveals Unconventional Training Space

In spite of this, Canelo made a sign to get into the ring to an area of the stands where Benavidez was, although the invitation was for personalities such as Peso Pluma and Luis R. Conriquez, who celebrated with the boxer that night.

Benavidez responds to the alleged provocation

In an interview with the YouTube channel ESNEWS, Bandera Roja pointed out that although he did not take part in the provocation, Benavidez sees a certain mockery in Canelo‘s attitude.

“It didn’t seem like an aggressive thing at all… It could have been more than that, but it wasn’t. It seemed more like he was taunting me, telling me to get on with him.”

Canelo has reiterated on several occasions that he will only agree to fight Benavidez if the purse exceeds $200 million, so he is not obligated to fight the American.

Benavidez once again lashed out against Canelo, whom he calls a fighter without class, since he does not seek to provoke his opponents in turn.

“At the end of the day I want to be respectful, because I wouldn’t want him to get in the ring after one of my fights, because I would slap him. He wouldn’t have dared to do it to me. And they wouldn’t have let me get in anyway.”

Canelo Alvarez‘s next fight will take place in September, with opponent and venue yet to be confirmed.
